Question Those running TT with 3.5" exhaust pipes

Hello, trying to see for those with TT kits if you guys managed more power running 3" dual piping full exhausts or 3.5" piping. I have seen one or two boosted Z's running a single exit exhaust so same question also applies to them. I'm redoing my exhaust system for the TT build but I'd like to get more info from those who are boosted though. thanks!

Note, this will be on a vq35hr motor using the GTM TT stg 1 kit

More than 3" is simply overkill and a very, very tough fit. Not needed for your goals.

Dual 3" would still be fine for 1000+WHP... but he's not with a GTM stage 1 kit.

It all comes down to clearance, I am not sure how you could run much bigger than 3" down there with out hanging down.

it was a thought, I read in modified mag about their supra (i kno, different car and setup) but they did a test in regards to exhaust piping and power levels and I was basically trying to apply that concept onto a TT Z with dual or possibly single exhausts. heres the link to the test they did: http://www.modified.com/tech/modp-11...ech/index.html

OP,

A dual 3" exhaust is more than enough for the power levels you will achieve with your setup. Exhaust output from a GTM Stage 1 TT kit would be nowhere near maxing out the flow capacity of a dual 3" exhaust. Therefore you would see no performance benefit by increasing to a dual 3.5" exhaust.

You would have to be in 4-digit horsepower territory before a dual 3" exhaust would be restrictive. The only place to run that kind of power level (besides on a dyno) would be at the drag strip, in which case it would make much more sense to have exhaust cutouts rather than the added weight of a full dual 3.5" exhaust.

IIRC, I believe Philthy had a custom dual 3.5" exhaust on his G which fit quite nicely. It looked cool, but was way overkill for his FI setup and power levels IMO.

I have made over 600whp & 600ftlbs with a 2.5" exhaust however I were to buy an exhaust again I would go with a 3".

Piping size make way more difference on a single exhaust.

This is interesting...I am running AAM 3" exhaust, my questions is would there really be a difference on the Twins running Open Dumps?

Running single exhaust with 3" Downpipes gives 1.5" for each turbo, kind of restrictive i think. Now if i were to go with a Dual Exhaust a 2.5" would be perfect for my needs. Sure dual will make the turbos spool faster than my current single but as soon as boost hits open dumps do the magic. I guess the turbos will flow better with dual instead of my 3" Single?
