Default Smoother OS Giken clutch compound?

Ok, another question while i have my car open.

My os giken is awsome but it engages so harsh that it is horrible driving. I have to rev it to 2500 just to take off.

Is there a softer compound of clutch disk for them? I see they have a ceramic disk for the new 3.7L engine. The ones that come with my twin disk are a metallic compound that is harsh as can be. An organic, carbon, or semi-metallic would be great. I can't seem to find them anywhere. Any os giken gurus out there know anything?

I would just switch clutches but that's quite expensive and I don't trust a single disk with the power i'm shooting for this spring.

I couldnt find any info about what materials are offered but I have a twin plate os giken and I normally rev to no more then 2k to engage it smoothly in first. I'm told my clutch pedal feel is very stiff but I guess I am used to it.

stiff? The whole part of a twin disk is to remove teh amount of pressure that is needed on the plates to get a good clamp. Mine is considerably lighter than any aftermarket clutch i've used and even lighter than my oem clutch.

Mine is far from smooth though. It's an "on or off" clutch. There is no slip.

more agressive clutches to hold big power are gonna be kind of harsh no real way to get away from it imo...i have the carbonetics triple disc...not too harsh but kinda loud on engagement considering its hold capacity....

Ya, clutch compound makes a huge difference to on/off feeling so i was hoping to get an organic disk for it since it will still hold great power and not be so harsh. I do'nt htink they offer it though. Seems like it's hard to find info on their products.

What exact model do you have? I would assume that you don't have the STR2CD?

whatever it is for a 2003 DE engine. I think something TB2 or something. I can't remember and it's been in the car for over a year.

That doesn't tell me anything as there are currently at least three different types of twin disks available for a non–revup model. Only one, the grand Touring model, was just released in 2011.

The STR2CD was designed with power and civility in mind. The grand Touring takes this approach even further by making clutch and flywheel operation quieter.

Based off of Binder's comments about the clutch pedal feel, it sounds like he may have the STR2CD.

From OS Giken's website...
The STR series of twin plate clutches were designed for daily driven high performance vehicles. STR clutches provide the comfort of the stock clutch’s pedal feel and the strength of a race ready twin plate. Whether it be a lap around the track or a trip to the corner store, the STR twin plate clutch equally handles each task with ease.

TS2BD is what I have.

The C is a 215mm clutch plate and that is for an HR. I have a DE which is the smaller 205mm clutch plate or "B" designation.

The STR clutches are entirely different but that's not what i have. I guess those are all "c" designation.

I have an STR2CD for my 03 350z. I can't give you my thoughts on it yet as my machinist still has it.

According to OS the STR2CD is much smoother then the TS2BD and I've heard the same from customers who have purchased them from us.

I'm installing my STR2CD on my '08 Nismo. I'm wondering which direction do the clutch disc face?
