To my regret I bought a APS TT kit with Journal bearings, I did so much research but failed to notice any of the threads stating they changed to journal turbos.

So I am just wondering who has actually installed the APS journal turbos and is still running them and is happy.

Keen to know your power output and PSI you are running also if you are built or stock block.

My car is going to have a built block, but a daily driver, so I am thinking
maybe the power these journals put out will be enough. maybe not though.

 

Not that they are the same turbo, but my greddy 20g are journal bearing turbos and I'm happy with them, built block tuned to 14 psi, 483 whp. max boost at 42-4300 rpm. I think the case where these would not be good would be constant track use, but there are guys on here that have beat the snot out of their journal turbos. I would love to have BB turbos and water/oil cooled. Not sure sure if yours are also water cooled.

 

Cass007 had tried them on his built block but he was disappointed with the power they made so he upgraded the centers to BB. He had them done at Blouch turbo but if I recall it was $1200ea. His build thread might have the power he made with them.

 

Return it. Any reputable vendor will take it back.

 

He is in Australia so he should have direct access to APS.

If I remember correctly it was just the tuner version that came with the journal bearings or has that changed?

 

my kit is the complete kit, i bought it second hand so cant return it unfortunately.
Checked out Cass007 thread but looks like he upgraded the turbos before install.
Couldnt find Jay-Zs thread.

I think i would be happy if i can at least make between 450hp and 500hp on these, i could try and run as close to stock compression on the forged engine as possible.

I saw Z1 got one running up to 450hp although it was with the external gate turbos although mine are the internal gated ones.

So is there anyone out there running these on a built engine with 450+ Hp?

 

How did you miss all those threads about the APS kit changes from BB's to journals?

 

If I were you, I would just have them upgraded to BB. You already have them out of the car. Do a little mod'ing to them. It will be installing them, then if you aren't happy with the result, taking the engine out and then sending turbos off.
