Anyone ever installed a vortech?
#22
i have a boost, fuel pressure and air/fuel ratio gauges. I have the full kit. I read the directions too many times and I understand all of it. I have a gear head friend helping me that does alot of work on cars. I also got money set aside for the random stuff I might encounter.
I just had a question about how many miles I should baby it before i go into boost. I can't seem to find that answer.
Ill try and post pictures of the kit and stuff if they will ever show up to me email

Is that all the pieces to the kit in those pics?
I did my friends GTM S/C on his 370, damn that was a lot of parts, brackets, BS, much more involved than I had hoped for. It was like 3X the pieces in your pics!

thing, some of it is wrapped up in that bubble wrap like the pulleys and brackets but that's it!

Similar kind of situation- I recently had a shop who knew less about the install than you do install my jwt kit and judging by what I've been through if you do it wrong, no amount of Babying it is going to matter. So +1 on having a shop, preferably one that the community in here can vouch for, going over the build with less than casual eyes. Then they can check on little things like, you know, whether the engine is actuallly attached to the car. Yes finer details like that turn out to be important. Funny thing is it's not something I would expect anyone to need to check so I know in my case I'm pretty sure nobody would have even thought to check. I mean who 4cks that up? Well, my first shop did!
Some shops might be hesitant To go over it because then if something goes wrong you might say "hey why didn't you catch that- you owe me a new engine..." and thats where the fight starts. Having a shop looking it over reduces risk- it doesn't eliminate it.
I'd also been told that it should be checked for "settling" of components, heat wrap, pinched cables etc at 500km or so. Of course you'd be examining things casually more often then that- but 500 Is a good number for a closer look. At least in my limited view of things.
In my new build going on now they suggested a break in period off about 1000kms of lower boost before the hella-tune happens.
So whether you're going to need to observe a 0 boost period... The only 0 boost time I was told to NOT dip into that side of the Gauge was pre-tune. If you're going to tune your car somewhere other than home (assumed) then that's applicable. Otherwise? Probably don't want your first tune to 15psi shooting for 500+ (you know what I mean) on your first go round.

I understand what your saying. But there is no way I would trust myself installing a turbo kit with my own experience. Much more of a complicated install that I would definitely invest in someone doing. This vortech kit looks very straight forward. Plus I really want to learn the experience and gets me more involved and more knowledgable about the kit I have on my car, especially if anything ever bad happened on the kit while I was driving. I called superchargersonline ( who im very pleased with and their service is very friendly!) who said there really was no break in period because nothing really was gonna be broke in. But I'm still gonna take it easy for a few days.thanks for the advice though I appreciate it

its all simple installs. all you are doing is fitting pipes and turning bolts. turbo kit, superchargers, all easy installs. the only thing different is the amount of time needed to do each.
ive done my simple vortech install to the hardest SFR TT install currently on the car on my back under jack stands. dont underestimate yourself. just jump in and it all will start to make sense

yes take your time! dont rush anything ... it took us 3 days to finish out everything, but we did it right... headers, vortech, methanol, gauges the whole shebang! i had 4 friends helping me out
2 friends were on supercharger detail, 1 friend on electronics with gauges and wiring the meth kit, other on food , beer, and gaskets
took a while, but no one was at each others throats ... which was the best part,

Vortech kits all come with a great install manual. We have sold many kits that were installed by the customers themselves. Like everyone else said, just take your time and read everything twice. You should be good to go!

Thanks guys! I put my new radiator fans ( my aftermarket one is bigger and pipes wont fit With stock shroud) in today and took my bumper off and changed the oil. Getting ready for tomorrow. Starting at 10am working all day and night. Should have it finished. Ill take pics and post them up!

Ok I have a quick question I'm installing the unit now but I'm confused what this braided line is coiled up under the supercharger? What is it do I need it? Is it the oil line for the v2? Should I just keep it blocked off? The manual says nothing

that is the drain hose for the lubricant / oil inside the supercharger. when you change the fluid, you crack open the bolt at the end and drain out the old fluid. make sure you route that hose to somewhere that is easily accessible.

Read my Vortech build thread, this may give you a few ideas. Good luck man! https://my350z.com/forum/forced-indu...day-build.html

so we got the kit installed! we ran into a few problems though. First we noticed when we were wiring the vortech pggy back to the factory ecu he told us to hook up cam 1 and cam 2 wires to terminals 14 and 33. there was no wires in those 2 terminals. im going to give vortech a call about this. Also my bypass valve is leaking a insane amount. It blows alot of air out while the car is just ideling.we think the bov is defective. It is staying cracked open and we tried to adjust it but got no luck. I was pretty bummed out about this because I bet it sounded amazing, and the fact that it didnt work sucks. I'm using my friends bov as a temperory till I get a new vortech one. The car seems to be running really good. pulls very strong and everything else seems to work. I did notice the blower makes some odd noises lol but I think that is normal.
So if anyone could explain these please do.
1) missing cam wires on my 2003 ecu.
2) Stuck open BOV?
3) sometimes my idel drops kinda low but then goes back to normal? is this normal?
