Default Exhaust: Dual 60mm to Single 76.3mm

So about the month ago in my never ending quest for car improvements/better lap times I started thinking about changing out my true dual exhaust for 2 reasons. Weight savings, and simplicity.

Currently I run an HKS True Dual.

I posted an ad on G35driver, looking to swap for a JIC 3" Single.

Immediately, someone local wanted to outright BUY my HKS, but I still had the season to finish out and told him I would at the end of the season. Which is....now-ish?

Anyways, my question is, does anyone see "flow" issues going from dual 2.25" to a single 3", Im not looking to make MORE power, but maintain what I have with less weight and a simple (read: easy to work on or around) exhaust.

I'm thinking it will perform better considering it has less bends, no h-pipe, no huge canisters with bends....

But I've been told the 3" will be louder (I have to be mindful because of noise restrictions at my local track).

Thoughts?

from what i gathered from the years i've been on this forum a single exhaust definitely performs better than a dual

but they look a little too hardcore for me and seeing that my car is completely stock and the only track i've been to is a drag strip i don't need something so aggressive

before buying my nismo exhaust i purchased a new agency power exhaust. it was good quality but i immediately changed my mind and bought a nismo exhaust and never looked back

Well I haven't seen any FACTS on the topic. I have a single on my nismo while another member has duals on his nismo. I know varibles are different, and dyno can't be held to be the truth. His car got closer to 300whp than my car.....

How?

Why?

JIC 3" is too loud for a few of us for the track. I removed it because it was just too loud. Its also more prone to cracking than you'd think. Mine cracked and i had to have it fixed. My recommendation is the Greddy single. Its quiet and cheap. The only problem is the tip is a little short so if you run rich you'll turn your bumper black.

Curious, are you turbo?

When I was N/A the car screamed, but after the TT it really quieted it down.

More of an air being pushed sound

Well i had the Injen SES installed. Afterwards I installed a custom welded 4" single with a 3" cut out. Car is really loud now but with the cut out i can switch to oem level. One thing i immediately noticed was a gain of almost 6psi and a much better spool. Imrpovement was almost 500rpm. So i´d say go big if you are turbo.

I had the ebay hks duals. Which I removed and replaced with a aam 3" y pipe and a invidia 3" off a evo x.
Hopefully I will very dumping it later today and I'll let you know the difference.
I know as far as drivability the duals were a lot quieter and now I can't talk on the phone with out pulling over cause it drones so bad at all speeds.

lol gotcha. Thanks for any info.

A buddy just told me he runs a 3" turbo back on his Supra and still makes it under the noise limit at the track.

However, thats an inline 6, single turbo setup.

Why not go with the Greddy Turbo TiC or RS? Granted it's a true dual, weight savings to single would be minimal unless going with the full ti.

I don't see how adding a y-pipe to the mix makes the setup more simple especially on a TT car.

Or what about electric cut outs? What kind of tracking do you do? HPDE or NASA?

Single Pipe/Single Canister.

Those HKS cans are ****en heavy/awkward and it sucks when I have to take them out on my back.

I agree, taking out the axle back sections of a hks is a huge pain! I am seriously thinking about a single aswell. I read a pretty good post on this forum where motordyne chimed in and put some good info in saying some good stuff, for a boosted car, I would be concerned that 3 inch might be too small

Word, me too. A little off topic but do you run into any temperature issues? I've done almost every cooling mod, and taken every precaution possible to avoid problems.

Are you running an oil cooler? Where did you mount so that the intercooler isn't in the way?

go for Greddy Single. Or Even AAM if you can find one
