Default Thermostat = best cooling mod

sup all.. long time no post.

My thermostat was in it's last leg and I just replaced it with the Nismo. The price difference is huge. $20 for stock and $180 for the Nismo. I've figured that it would cool down my car by a few degrees. To my surprise, my oil temp was running 20 deg cooler consistently. Not only that, it takes a lot longer to reach the maximum, normal driving temp. I'm also running a Stillen radiator. I'm very surprised and pleased with this 'mod'

???I'm running a Nismo thermostat. How did you get 1-2 more mpg?
Mine's the same..temp is down for sure.Don't see what the therm. has to do with mpg?

a thermostat won't cool your system down more. the radiator is causing the cooling. The thermostat only controls at what temp it allows the cool fluid into the engine.

once it's all the way open it will be the same "cooling" as a normal thermostat which means while driving it hard there is no difference.

your results are from adding the increased radiator, not the thermostat.

coolant flows at a lower temp with Nismo. I didn't think it had any relations either but apparently it does.

I would say be "budget" cooling mod, not best cooling mod overall.

So general consensus is no need for a cooler tstat? Why do they make them in general?

There is better mods to do first before doing this mod that's all.

actually not true, DIK.. i jsut pulled upa thread about the pathfinder mod.. whats the scopp w that.. my build is already a clusterfawk, i dont want to add any roadblocks.. but should i roll one of those rear crossovers too? Does it create any pitfalls at all, or just gain? I have mishimoto radiator and cap goin in there, cooling plate, new water pump etc.

Thanks man.

very worth it from what I gather. It routes cooling from one head to another from cooling passages that were blocked on the de and rev up. Friend of mine with a built g just put this mod in aswell as tapping his block and running coolant lines to each the turbo and he said it stayed quite a bit cooler ( and helped with some air bubbles in his cooling system he was having troubles getting out)
