There probably won't be a full official build thread.
Couple of reasons... mainly me=dgaf, I don't have the patience to upload tons of pics (I do put some pics up randomly on facebook only because my phone can send them straight over), and also the build moves so slowly (esp while I'm away from the car at school). Besides that, I'd like some things in the car to remain a mystery

I will have vids up on the youtube and probably will make an end product thread. I'm hoping to have the car running by christmas.

I'll keep it real:
Threads that run 10+ pages and have nearly no work in them are focking JOKES... and don't like the people behind them/or the idea of such attention whoring. It's one thing to show your community what you have done, another to make a thread years before your car is being built...

hal runs eagles with no problems. you'll be fine and probably make alot more HP than him as well.

SP sends their blocks to darton to get sleeved.

I know about str8's experience but I'm somewhat skeptical.

And to add to what bert said about the shops... i'd go either darton (if you are on the west coast because they are in cali) or Sound Performance. SP is one hell of a shop and has the cars/records/and experience to prove it. And their customer service is super friendly/spot on. In fact, I'd probably go straight to SP, because then you could buy a complete short block rather than take your freshly sleeved block to another machine shop...

After forum surfing for hours last night, the LS engines have my interest.
Idle hands.....can't wait for Saturday to see the full extent of what's gone down and what is necessary to do from here.

honestly, LS is a much better direction to go. 100hp/ cylinder is a piece of cake.

exactly,

you can make 800 whp with less strain and cheaper parts on a 6L V8 than it will take to do on a 3.5L VQ. plus all the better transmission options available and limitless amounts of aftermarket support/offerings. Like most areas, there are probably at least 4 or 5 domestic builders for every import, and that ratio is even higher when you take out the "import" shops you;d never step foot in.

domestic motors break too, and depending on the platform they aren't necessairly cheaper than vq's. my buddy had an all motor build on his c6 z06, 4 months later it popped. he had a "reputable" shop do the work too. there's a lot of shady people and shops across all platforms, so i'm not convinced you can just go buy a ls and be worry free.

we are talking about cars that are making 6-7-800+ whp. risk is a given. but apples to apples, at the same whp a properly built 6L V8 will be more reliable than a properly built VQ V6

Mainly LS7 are prone to dropping valves and are not really built for boost. There are many articles/threads on ls1tech about the LS7 problems with respect to boost. You have some merit with respect to the LS being worry free on BOOST. However a stock motor will run all day long just like a stock VQ35.

see, that sounds like a misnomer to me. "properly built" to me would indicate that neither one should or would be more prone to breaking than the other. this isn't really an apples/apples comparison imo. it's like people saying there are evo's with a gt35r turbo making 600 wheel why can't my powerlab with a gt35r make the same hp??

my friends' zo6 dyno'd about 442whp stock, 569 after all the upgrades. there's no reason it should have blown up...but it wasn't "properly built".

i agree, that's why my friend didn't want to run any boost through it. his car was all motor: pretty big street cam, full exhaust, full intake. one night he gave it a rip and even short shifted second, heard a pop, saw tons of white smoke behind him, and costed back to his house. after pulling the heads he saw a massive gouge in piston #8 i think.

^^ Sh!et tunes don't discriminate on engine make/model or boost level... seems like he had some massive detonation

Really the only thing that would hold me back would be total cost, that's a lot of man hours and necessary items to purchase. I have a couple months but that's it.

Yeah your total cost should be inline with high end stock block TT setups though. Just look at it like this. The V6 has a baseline and the V8 has a baseline. The $$$/hp gains are not apples to apples. Another way to think is that your canvas is either ansel adams or divinci.

Well I have the TT kit already, and lots of other things I could reuse with another VQ setup. Of course, I could sell those items and contribute that to an LS...

you can't compare a gt35r on a 3.5 liter to it on a 2.4 liter. Not even close. The extra displacement chokes the turbo. That's why you can't run a gt35r on a 6.0L to get any power...it won't produce ****. It's all about flow. You can't flow enough to produce 600hp out of that turbo with a larger displacement engine. Small displacement engine would be easy.

Hal recommend I set the haltech to roll boost in, and I believe he does that himself...
I did speak with Reid on the phone about them, you car came into the convo lol, and he thinks I'll probably see issues with the block before the rods go. We'll see. I'll run into issue of the stock heads before anything breaks (I hope).

The turbo is likely going to be a mid mount (similar to boosted's design but slightly different in that we are using long tube headers and trying to make the overall manifold equal length from both banks). So long tube mandrel bent headers with tri-clover clamps to a y t4 pipe with twin 38mm wastegates. Turbowerx oil return pump. No pics, the manifold fabrication won't really start until the motor/transmission are back in the car, and seeing as I'm waiting on the machine shop to bore/clearance everything...

that was exactly my point, this isn't an apples to apples comparison.

The guys at SP are pretty convinced that stock sleeves shift around 700whp and cause the motors to push water. They said they've seen it all the time, so thats their primary concern way before rods, etc start to fail.

I doubt you'll want to roll boost in with a 71mm turbo. the natural lag will do that on its own. If anything though, reduce duty cycle right before peak boost so you dont get that big spike to the wheels.
