I doubt you'll want to roll boost in with a 71mm turbo. the natural lag will do that on its own. If anything though, reduce duty cycle right before peak boost so you dont get that big spike to the wheels.
Yeah that's what me and my friend were talking about... Especially with the manifold volume being so 'large' I don't think it will hit retardedly hard. But that was something I was going to figure out once the car is running and we're tuning post break in. Mainly the spike is what we are concerned about, which would be real easy to set boost to roll at those rpm if it's real bad.
Yeah that's pretty much what Reid said. I'm interested to see what part of the sleeve goes first... Well I don't want to see it break but you know what I mean.

See, now you get back to my original point of wanting a sleeved block to run 750whp, which was pissed on.

Really thinking hard about an LS. Spoke to the shop today about seeing what we can do to head that direction.

Interesting.

So they truly believe in sleeving? Hows your car running?

Larry wouldnt even build a high HP block without sending it to Darton. My motor was built at Forged who hasnt seen the water pushing effect and hence i didnt go with sleeves. Who knows. I had to stop the bleeding somewhere so sleeves were skipped.

Car is running good. Still some kinks with the Proefi but its 90% there. Redoing the suspension so only on 275 street tires now. They blow off 1-3rd and sometimes in 4th on wastegate pressure so its not too fun to drive. Cant tune my BC for anything over 14psi until I get my DR's back on.

I will say that there aren't too many shops that have used turbo's as big as SP has on an unsleeved motor either. Mine was definitely one of the bigger ones....that didn't outright pop....and it pushed water with the 60mm turbos above 22psi (where it was already well over 700rwhp).

I don't think its the overall pressure, but the volume of air and the pressure (if that makes sense)(i.e. a single 104mm turbo is gonna move a lot more air at 20psi than two 18G turbos).

Rich I understand where ya are coming from on the costs........they add up FAST. And you are running WAY bigger turbos than anything forged has run on their own on these cars.

Really big downfall to these cars and modding now is the new cars out there. A frickin V6 mustang or Camaro starts at same power as these cars. The V8's are 420hp (give or take).....so they are starting at 330-350rwhp....thats a vortec setup with an exhaust on these cars....ugh....

Yeah, especially if you bought the car new it's really expensive. If you got it used and wanted a project car, it's not nearly as "bad".

Except I've yet to find a car I really enjoy driving as much as the Z, steering response and over all road feel. It's very sporty and easy to drive fast (especially when I had the weight reduction and r888's), but at the same time not like a lotus or road race miata where you feel like you are in a purpose built post box.
I feel like something to do with the difficulty of these cars adds a lot to the lore. Because legitimately the amount I've put into the car I could have bought a s14 or s13 and swapped in a 2j and have not only a really fast car, but basically one of those 'dream' builds. Then with what I still haven't spent I could have made a god-damn rocket car!
it is what it is.

I had this same problem on 285's, the same tires on the 19x11" rear wheels on there now.

Resmarted- I've felt that feeling a few times. Of course, with any "x" amount of money, there's only one "dream" setup at that price.

I modded the everlivingshit out of a B15 Sentra, more than once, for different things, show, autox, etc. At the end of the day, I could have had a Z with a TT kit. Now that I've done that, I could have had a GT-R with goodies.
And so on!

I'm certainly heavily leaning towards an LS engine with a few bolties and a 150 shot

Yeah my friend was really on me about why i didn't just do an ls swap. Not a big fan of the v-8 sound. Don't get me wrong they are impressive and all, but just don't like the sound.
Then he asked why I didn't just build a 2j and put up a cd009 to it with a custom bellhousing adapter or something. (so much better of a boost motor )
If I was outside of CA, I probably would have done it, but seeing as i could keep the car looking almost stock with a built vq I decided on that.

My car already doesn't look stock at all, I'm not worried about that. Also, the TT kit and the way I've got it setup took 100% of the VG sound away for me unfortunately. So the LSX would just be something different for me

.
myth. talk to people who have built both. stock block for stock block the 2jz will hold more power and perform better but built engines they both have the same incidence of problems and power output is directly related to the parts you use. So no, all that custom work won't really net a better build unless you are skimping on a properly built vq.

I can't disagree with you any more.
Having helped with a 1j gone 2j build, and currently building my vq myself I would take a 2j build any day.
Parts cheaper on 2j.
Experience far more abundant, tuning, parts, installation, machining... everything.
Why does SP barely *** with the vq, and go back to a platform that's been around since 93? because it has a far better motor.

Iron closed deck vs aluminum open deck... is that even a comparison?

2j can be made to rev to 10k, 9k reliably. I know people who have stock 1j's rev to 8k, on their daily.

Saying the 2j and the vq are equal is... to me blasphemous.

Skimping? Costs. Let's be honest. To not 'skimp' costs an arm and a leg with a vq.
I just don't see the world the same way you do I suppose binder.

With that logic, I'd figure you'd be suggesting a 4G63. lol

I was just thinking about it, it's basically a 4g with 2 more cylinders.

I mean seriously though, the number of 1000whp+ 2jz's out there is probably greater than we have 600whp+ vq35s or at least near the same. There's a reason the fastest import drag car (if you dare consider it a car anymore...) is powered by a 2j.
I'm pouring everything I got into my car and my vq, but the 2j is just better. And the sound... damn.

and the GTR is going to eclipse the supra standards in the next couple years. They are already in the 8's with full interiors and huge 18" drag radials. strip them, put some 15" wheels and proper sidewall slicks and the times will plummet.

you can never compare NA from stock to FI from stock. Obviously the FI from stock will have alot more cars making alot more power. If we had room to hang 88mm turbos in the engine bay and be able to swap them out in 10 minutes, we'd have a ton of high HP cars as well.

I've heard about that awd mk3 supra actually... it really does have a 98mm precision turbo, and a shep trans/awd system. Giant fuel cell with twin a1000 pumps...
runs a wastegate on the intake side and none on the exhaust. pretty sure it runs straight meth too.
