The best thing I ever did to my G35 was part it out and buy a gtr.

Get out before you are in too deep

Like Samuel Adams- the GTR is always a good decision. I am also too deep.

3 completely different engine problems not related to just the HR so it's not like it's a common thing.

About the oil and particles.....You can't see the salt in the ocean but there sure is a lot if it. Same with fine metal particles in oil.

thats what i was getting at binder, not a simple thing that can be referred to as builder error. more of a platform with boost error.

I guess VTR and dynosty using some kind of ferry dust in their big hp engines. Such a scam...

oh, I misinterpreted what you were implying then. When I get tired I read things too fast.

I hate sam adams (well, at least the few that I've tried) but I, too, am in too deep to get out. I would get about half the money out of my car from what I put into it therefore I probably will never get rid of it. I might still own a GT-R once I have things set nicely in my private practice.

My first block was from Autobahn Racing in Texas. It was a great engine with no issues until my oil return line was damaged in an ice storm and I lost oil. It lasted 14 hours of driving home. No spun bearing but there was heavy wear when I tore it down to rebuild. I would still be using it if 2 of the head studs wouldn't have pulled out on assembly. Defects in the aluminum block that couldn't have been foreseen. So now I have some dynosty pixi dust....I hope it holds up when I push this block past the 650hp I'm already at.

Default Progress is being made...

My homeboy came over today and we wrenched for about an hour and a half. Most of that time was spent trying to get the crank bolt out. Finally wedged a 3/8" extension through the crank pully and a 5 ft breaker bar. Once it broke it was easy to thread out by hand. Anyways, we made quite a bit of progress. Now we have to remove the timing cover, timing chain, rear cover, cams and the heads and should be good to go.

Here are some pictures for those who like that sort of thing. Any pointers for removing the timing components? We are following FSM, seems pretty easy to this point. It certainly helps to have my buddy with me. He has torn down and reassembled Honda heads that spin to 9000 rpm. I know you can't see little itty bitty metal shavings but the heads look perfectly clean. I would expect that being post filter.

hey, do you have the heads off to see if the cylinder on the broke rod shows some detonation on the piston or head from the previous overboost?

I want to give at least one shot to a built motor so I have ordered a Z1 Motorsports Built Short Block. Going to build for 700whp and shoot for 600whp. Thinking about doing Cams and Springs while I have it out.

Thanks.

I would for sure upgrade springs and valve hardware but if you are trying to save some cash the oem HR cams will get you 700hp without issues so your 600hp daily hp would be no problem at all. If you have the cash get the cams though

Yes, springs and retainers. Of course put new Viton valve seals in there as well. I'm not sure if this type of valves require lapping but I would have that performed to refresh the valve seat or just put some new valves in. With low miles the lapping should be sufficient.

And don't be scared on built block failures. The less than 10 people with failures on here don't account for the majority of the builds that are alive and well in the world. Nothing says you won't put in an LSx or 2jz and spin a rod bearing or have some other failure as well. There is no guarantee with ANY engine swap or platform. I have more friends with supras that have had engine failures than I have 350z engine failures. Local friends that is. You play with fire you are going to get burned....just a matter of WHEN, not IF.
