Default odd oil leak

Well, I think I have a good one on my hands (I hope it's an easy one though) so I just got my built motor in the car after 4 months of waiting. Only issue I have now though is an oil leak near the rear of the engine. It only leaks when the car is running, not a drop came out when I was away this past week. Couldn't start it today to see where it is coming from. From what I remember it was either dripping out of where the crank position sensor goes in or from higher up and running down the driver side of the transmission. I believe the ladder. I'm at a loss for where this could be coming from. Any suggestions on where to look now would be great!

Also would oil on the crank sensor cause code P0335 to come up? My brain is fried from this whole thing + still in vacation mode

sounds like the rear main seal is leaking. There have been many people installing these improperly, thus causing it to leak. Get a small bottle of oil dye, put it into the motor and take a black light and see where it comes from.

Sounds exactly like what I just had fixed on my car on a built motor as well. The assumption was that it was the old seal used instead of a new one- as opposed to being put in wrong- but it may just have been a combination.

Dude,

I just had the same thing happen after I installed my built motor. I rolled the lip on the seal when I put it in, and it leaked. I ended up pulling the motor back out to fix it. See here:

I concur. Only 2 oil leaks could come from the bell housing (crank sensor area). The rear main would leak engine oil and the input shaft seal on the trans would leak trans oil. If it's not red tinted and really smelly then it's engine oil. FYI, it's highly unlikely an input shaft seal is to leak so probably a rear main seal or possibly the area around the rear main seal wasn't properly sealed with RTV.
