Default Cosworth Opinions

I'm thinking about going with the 8:8:1 low compression Cosworth Longblock build w/ an APS Extreme TT kit and the APS Extreme Fuel System and the APS Twin 3" Exhaust w/ 3.5" Test Pipes along with an Uprev tune.

Wanted to get everyone's opinion with this setup.

Thanks.

I remember someone posted some negative reviews about the cosworth blocks. I'd say invest in carrillo rods and CP pistons for the short block, and ferrea valve train with JWT cams. as for the fuel system I'd say stick with CJM. it's just my OP...

have you pinched yourself or do you not want to end the dream?

If you were really serious...you would be talking to a shop and not just rattling off parts on my350z.com .

Buying this kit new? Not sure of you can find any aps stuff new, good luck. If you do, you'll be spending about 10-11k just for turbo kit and I want I guess close to 8-10k for a cosworth engine and a built head. But tune with uprev? Doesn't add up.

I was able to locate an APS Extreme setup from a wrecked Z w/ rear end damage.

^good luck with that.

Aps is out of Australia, getting parts from them won't be easy.

Cosworth block...who has had them to be able to talk about issues with them?

Is the engine coming from the same car?

Everyone who ive read about having the aps extreme kit got rid of it.

You have 2 options roughly for a big hp build.
DIY/Custom.
Go to a shop.

I believe that XKR has/had some cosworth components in his car, but its so one off that it really doesn't matter.

OP, I would say you are drastically overpaying for the Cosworth name. There are reputable vendors that can provide a build block for less for sure. The valvetrain has shown minimal gains that would only be worthwhile on a large whp build. Some members have reached 600-700+whp on stock heads and cams.

APS has abandoned our platform for support... period. They are impossible to get a hold of and spare parts are basically non-existent. The 3" TD exhaust is VERY hard to find, even used, and the fuel system is not as nice as the CJM unit (IMO).

Bascally, you could do a lot more for a lot less by reading the stickies at the top the section and researching some threads. Also, you are in CA, what are you doing about emissions and inspection?

Honestly I would go with another reliable source for the built block. I think cosworth blocks are expensive and since I don't know many out there I wouldn't say they produce a lot of vq35 engines. Dynosty or IPP would provide a great block for less money.

as for aps extreme fuel system. A few users here had them and had to do some serious mods on the surge tank to get them to work. They are poorly designed. A cjm twin pump system would be far more reliable and it is simpler. No surge tanks to mount or all that jazz. If you are using pump gas and not planning on going over 700hp a new single walbro 485 might be enough with a CJM stage 2 (single pump) setup.
