Default Hate to see this go to waste ...

so I thought I'd post this here.

My V36 Sedan with TT-HR motor and modified transmission was totaled when some idiot decided to rear end me at a stop light. All work was done by GTM. I found it up for insurance auction in case any of you need a motor and/or transmission.

Last dyno:

GTM Stg1 TT, 9PSI, FCon iS, 5 A/T, 91 oct.

Why did they consider it a total loss?

Because body shop said it will need over $17K worth of body work (without even opening it up yet) and the KBB on an 07 sedan is only about $25K. Insurance company also doesn't insure "accesories" that are not street legal.

I still have to go after the person that hit me in small claims because she only had $25K in coverage!!

Ouch. Sucks we have to have insurance for people who don't have insurance nowadays. Thanks for looking out and good luck in court.

Nah! That's what they say the average KBB is. This is an insurance company auction. It's just gonna go to the highest bidder.

My guess is it is worth $25K - $17K (for body work needed) = $8K. It might go for more if a potential buyer actually knew there is a twin turbo motor and upgraded transmission in there.

I put in about $16K for GTM to put everything in there and tune it. I'd consider it myself if I had the time and facilities to pull the motor, transmission, sensors and engine management off. The car was my daily driver and never tracked or beat on (aside from some hwy pulls).

I was on the phone talking to my agent for something else and asked what ever happend to my old car. He told me it was gonna be auctioned off and gave me the info.

Whoa, whoa whoaaaaaaaaa.... I would get that turbo kit and ANY aftermarket stuff you put on it and PULL IT OFF OF THERE! ... They are not comping you for that and just giving you low blue book as an estimate of a stock car...

Get that stuff off there and use it on your next G or sell it to re-coup some of your losses.

I didn't have time to pull all the FI stuff off and make it stock again. That was my daily driver so I had to get another car quick. And if I gave them a non-functional car, the insurance company would pay out even less for it.

My insurance company also ran specialty vehicle comps and comparably boosted G's were selling for around $30K. I checked around too on my own and that is about right.

In the end, my insurance company handed me a check for $27K so they are also going after the person that hit me because they paid out over her policy limits. I have invoices for all the stuff I put on the car so I intend to go after her for more as well.

My replacement car didn't turn out to be a G so the FI stuff wouldn't do me any good and I'd be sitting on parts that would take even more time for me to sell.

I did however take off the easy stuff including BBK, DPE Wheels and CAMP2.

WTF, only $25K in liability? Can't believe that's even legal.

when you put that much into upgrades, just to give it away makes absolutely no sense to me.
16K in turbo parts, a car loan to pay off and a 27k dollar check dont seem like they all add up in my eyes. I would have felt slighted by that deal big time.

If she only had 25k in liability(!) shes probably not going to have anything to go after her in small claims court. Unless shes on the other end of the wealth spectrum and her shady ethics somehow got her into some bullsh!t insurance. I hope for you its the latter. What car was she driving?

Ive only had two totaled cars, both of them with well over half of the cars value in modifications. The first one i was young, didnt know better and thought i would be able to remove parts before i agreed to get a check from them.
I was wrong and before i realized it, the car was on its way to auction. Bolt-ons, 19" HREs, BBK, coilovers, full sound system. I got a check for just enough money to buy a shitty DD, 1/3 of the amount i had in the car. Set my car activities back for almost a year. The next car that was totaled i bought back and sold everything for twice the amount they were going to cut me a check for. then i scrapped the rest for even more money.

I hope it all works out for you dude.

works out? it already did.

He was cut a check for 27K and has moved on, prolly months ago.

He was just passing along a heads up for someone with free time that wanted to bid on the auction to get a good motor and TT kit and put it in a new car.

Like the OP said, most comprehensive insurance policies pay you more for your aftermarket modifications. If you have just a few minor mods on a $20K car, the adjuster may just add on the full value and leave it like that. Like +$1000 for your aftermarket exhaust and $150 for your intake that was totalled. But if you are looking for $16K for a full turbo and built engine set-up, they will go to the trouble to price out how much the "actual cash value" is REALLY worth by trying to find auctions of comparably modified cars. As we all know from the marketplace, you cannot sell your +$16K modded car for $16K over blue book- that's just not how the used car market works.

The only other option would be an agreed value policy from some place like Haverty's, usually for cars driven less than 5000 miles a year.

Yep ... replacement car is not a Nissan so the FI parts won't do me any good.

I put this out there in case anyone needed a TT-HR motor and transmission (w/shift kit) that is already tuned. This isn't my car anymore so I don't see a dime of the proceeds ... I just happen to know its complete history.
