Question ATI install complete but hood will not shut

I have completed the install on my 2003 Track but can't get the hood close. I do not have any clearence issues but seem to have something not lined up in correct spot or the latch isn't working properly. Has anyone seen this before or taken the hood latch loose? Is there anyone in the Raleigh NC area with ATI kits?

I am going to remove it in the next day or two but i would like to know if that is the problem before doing so. I don't really understand what has shifted or has been altered it looks like the hook from the hood can't reach the bottom of the latch.

don't remove your hood latch just yet........lining it up again could be a huge pain in the azz.......check all of those heavy hose clamps, and see if any of them are hitting the hood and preventing it from closing......look for paint scrapes or chips on the inside of the hood......rotate the offending clamp, if any are found, and re-tighten

I have checked all my clamps and hoses including the air inlet hose form the filter and they all seem to fit. I even put some grease on all the top most points to see if they touched the underside of the hood. I didn't see any grease touch marks on the underside of the hod and i don't have any scratches either. We even tried lightly dropping the hood into place like you would normally do and it still didn't close or leave any marks on the underside of the hood.

I'd look at the MAF sensor and ensure it is rotated towards the plenum. The MAF is plastic and it won't leave any marks on the hood. I made a good thread IMO on 350Zfrenzy on things to look out for during the install of the procharger, and that was one of them.

The MAF was the first thing i checked. I had already ran across your post and found it to be very helpful. Thanks jesseenglish for all the great info.

Glad it was useful.

I've never heard of anyone having a hood latch problem yet. Only other things I can think of are maybe the strut brace isn't bolted competely down or as in my case the fuel pump hoses weren't pushed down far enough.

I had to get a different elbow joint for mine, I think it was part X in the manual would have to check but my hood wouldn't shut either and ATI sent out a different one. No Z I have seen in person has a perfectly aligned hood on these Z's on the driver side the hose that goes to the IC sticks your bumper up and can even crack your bumper. Mine is actually better than the others I have seen since getting that new part but then again my kit was old, ATI and I aren't even on the same page anymore (litterally.)

The other day the Tech told me to turn to page 23, mine said this page intenionally blank lol their manual is newer than ours! GL

LOL,

I think he may be insane, he would fit right in at Future Nissan and you could leave with more broken stuff than fixed stuff!

"I'm going to Texas, and Michagan and Califronia!!!!"

LOL

Oh yeah, your hood sorry man it's an ATI thing try cutting the prop a little more? Any idea where it is touching? Check the top of your hood (inside) for rub/scratch marks.

I think I am supposed to be aslepp though, l8trs!

Default Goofy thought....

Have you pulled the hood release inside the car? On some cars its possible to trigger the hood latch with the hood up - I've done it once on the Z myself. If during the install you happened to push the hood latch into the closed position the hood will not close. Pull the hood release lever in the passenger compartment and try again, in case you haven't already done so.

If that's not it - good luck!

Bill,
How does your hood look? I finally got mine to close but it is bowed up on the drivers side by a quarter inch. Where did you get your EFMU tuning performed at? What would be a good boost scale for me to start at or should i leave it alone until geting to the Dyno? My EFMU shows the arrow pointing between 10 and 15 psi from the factory.

My hood looks good, it's shut I tuned the EFMU at a buddy's shop in Durham. For now, I'd follow the recommended settings that ATI states in the manual, trust me when I say those settings are VERY VERY rich. My scaler is set to around 13 I think, I'll have to double check in the morning. Put the settings that ATI recommends, don't boost above 5k and let me know if you want to setup an appointment at the shop, it's Carolina Auto Masters, the rates are cheap and I can help you out if you need. Let me know.

I am in the Greenville NC/ECU (worst football team in the nation) area if thats any closer for you. Procharger installed. Never had the hood problem. Would be happy to help. I have already had all these headaches.......getting blown is good! Blown up is not good. You will never know whats up w/o WB-o2 or a good tuner.
