Eventually I plan on going forced induction but which route I choose depends on a few things.
I would like to do supercharging, because of reliability issues, ease of install and cost.
However after driving several turbocharged vehicles I realised that one major reason to turbocharge your vehicle would be for the beautiful sounds they make, especially the BOV!!
I drove a friends modified GTI 1.8T and loved revving the engine just to hear that thing vent. PSSSSSHHH! it made pedestrians double take and would be competitors fearful!
This reason alone would make me get a Turbo.
However I would still stick with an SC if by intalling a BOV I could get similar sound effects. I could even overlook that roar from an open wastegate!
So I have two questions.......
#1 IS ther a point to putting a BOV on a.. say a Vortech system or would this not be a good thing. AS long as it doesnt hurt the car, I dont care! I know its kind of a poser thing but like I said: i dont care I just want that sound.
#2 If BOV is okay to put on an SC system, will I still get a BOV sound that is equally fun to listen too?
Kind of a silly thread but I would like to know! Thanks for advice.
Please no half assed speculations. I can do that on my own. Id like some educated guesses from people who know their sh*t.

It won't vent and hiss , it won't make the sound you want, but trust me, people know something is different about my lol, I have only been challenged twice this month and both were modified MUSTANG GT's one said he has a supercharger but he also said his race weight was 2800 lbs so he was full of it, I spanked him bad new model.
The other had flowmasters (they make a distinct sound) and was a 5.0, I took him by 6 car lengths from a red light at 10 psi lol.
I still want the BOV for my car and it's SCer for other reasons though so goo tread to the top!
I saw an HKS for 100 bucks and my buddy got an HR4 for 60. I am gonna let him guinee pig before I buy mine. Can't wait till he posts more on this.

seriously though......there should be no reason why you can't put a BOV in place of the bypass valve, since it's pretty much the same thing......the only difference is, for the "PSSSHHHTTT" sound, you would be venting the excess boost to atmosphere
on my set-up, i'm adding a BOV, but mine is going to dump the excess back into the intake just like the surge valve does.....i want the BOV because it's better quality than the POS surge valve that comes with the ATI kit

Uhhh yeah me too! Please PM me. IF an SC can sound as good as a Turbo then I am all over it
the BOV is f-ing amazing... very turbo-like and loud.
Here's a clip of the BOV on my Vortech:
http://www.audioenvy.com/sedansc.wmv
The sound of the BOV is very short (lasts longer during real shiftying) and occurs about 45 seconds into the video. The rest of the clip just has the whir of the belt at close range and with the hood up.
If there's interest I can try to record some more noises, perhaps inside the cabin.

Here's the location of the BOV in the Vortech kit, BTW...

The BOV is the blue cylinder looking thing with the white sticker on it. The front of the car (looking up at the intercooler) is at the bottom of the picture.

i didn't hear any wooshing
.......compressor sounds just like ours though, at least through my speakers it does
Yeah, they sound almost exactly the same to me too. Probably have to hear it when it's driving instead of sitting in one location.
I can hear my bypass valve when I shift under heavy acceleration. Mine sounds like a barking dog though, literally.

Me either.
I only heard it at the end when he hit it hard. I hope Steve records a few more videos for us to hear more of the BOV - and what it sounds like from inside the cabin.
