Default Changing Vortech Filter

This is really the most annoying part of being a vortech owner (as well as changing its oil). It simply cannot be done unless you take the front end off or put a very small filter on or make a pipe.

I know some guys on here have chopped these two plastic / metal parts on here to make it easier or fitment, but does this have an impact on the chassis or strength of the front end support or anything else? Thoughts?
