Default Clutch Choice?

I need a Clutch. I want a 2-3 disc…. 600+ ft/lbs?

That can stand abuse from Drag Racing and 5000 RPM Launch

What clutch has got the smoothest street manner?

Note: Carbonetics is "out of Busness"

Please only people with personal experience.

Thanks,

TimRod

RPS twin carbon. I chose the billet steel flywheel - very easy to daily drive (billet aluminum is an option). 700 whp / 700 ft lbs of torque and no issues. Rated 750, not 900 though (they do offer a triple for 1000+)... They don't advertise that they make clutches for the Z/G but you can get one through Dynosty. The guys there felt it was the best feeling twin disc they have installed for a customer.

PS. I have only driven this clutch with the RJM clutch pedal modification and only this past season - did put ~ 3k miles on it though on the back country roads!

why do you need 600-900 ft-lbs? You getting a big turbo kit?

Biggest mistake people do is overbuy the clutch. That RPS is close to 3 grand.

My Spec holds power and isnt that hard to drive.

Need a clutch that can stand abuse from Drag Racing and 5000 RPM Launches, and still be very streetable and smooth.

Definitely not comparable to a twin or triple plate clutch, but my Comp Clutch, Stage 4, 6 puck has been pretty solid and withstood everything I’ve thrown at it so far (6k miles, a few runs down the strip). Cost $400. Absolutely, must have the RJM clutch pedal IMO though.

for a supercharged engine, a single disc would be easier to drive and 1/2 the price.

Lots of people have had good luck with south bend clutches and they make 3 levels for their stage3 (daily, endurance, drag).

Similar to my set up...I got the NZ1-XTG6, just a stiffer pressure plate, and the 16 lb ACT Flywheel...

It's actually pretty driveable, all things considered....and actually not too bad on the legs in regards to clutch pressure...

Thank Haris,

Good to know. I was thinking, what if i get it installed and I hate it? I do expect it to be super smooth like a stock clutch, but I also did not what it to be a pain in the *** to drive on the street and take all the fun out.

My 6 puck clutch felt like it had a 1,000 mile break in period. So, it might be harsh at first, but it should get better...

I installed my ACT 6 puck Clutch over the last week.

It feels very Nice, not to grabby at all. Very Pleased.

With the Stock Pedal Assy, the Pedal has a nice feel, engagement is high off the floor like I like it…. I see no need for the RJM Pedal with this Clutch, although I have one coming.

Note: Got it from Zspeed, Lowest Price on the Net. Had it at my house in 2 days…..

My six puck went south after about 50 drag runs and 15k or so street miles. Ended up fusing itself to the flywheel during a burnout (pads wore down to the rivets and the grab finally let loose during the burnout). JWT has been holding strong with 100+ since. Making about 400wtq by the way. Not sure if 6 puck clutches are suited for drag racing after my bad experience....

Comp stage 4 + 13lb flywheel is what I had. Aside from the short life span, it was the most annoying clutch I've ever driven. Grabby, chattery, stiff...Pretty much anyone who drove it for the first time would stall out, even after warning them first.

A 6 puck type is Better for Drag Racing…..

Funny, I had the JWT and lasted about 30 drag runs and 15,000 on the street. Wore it right down to the rivets. Fried….

I do have to say though, that the JWT Clutch and Flywheel are a nice package. Great street clutch for mide HP, just would not hold up to my abuse and Hp.

You'll wear out the 6 puck even faster IMO...
