Default How much heat wrap will I need?

Looking at this stuff, http://www.jegs.com/i/DEI/186/010110...ductId=1993466 Wondering how much I am going to need to do all hot and cold pipes on a Powerlabs Single setup? Says it comes with 2 50 foot rolls, which sounds like a lot, but I know how fast that stuff can go. The cold pipes I have already have that reflective yellow stuff which is fine, but I dont like how bright it is, and I like how it looks when wrapped with the DEI stuff. I came across a supercharged Z a few weeks back that had all pipes wrapped in this and it looked good and kept the engine bay clean and serious looking.

One 50ft roll wont be enough to even do all of the exhaust.(TN kit) That's all I can help ya.

EDIT Also make sure it's titanium exhaust wrap. The one that works to 2000 degrees. I've had other types burn off on me

I dont know the power labs kit that well but I would think 100ft of 2" would be enough. I would get a 1" roll of 50' to wrap your headers. A thinner wrap will contour the curved pipes better than a 2". I would use whatever you have left over to wrap your headers/exhaust as far as it'll go back. I got 6 rolls and had about 2 rolls leftover, so I did my bikes headers/exhaust.

I would also ditch the metal ties that DEI provides and use a thick bailing wire or rebar tie wire, just make sure its not coated!!!

You can set up a quick excel spread sheet
Need to know:
PIPE OD
Pipe Length
Roll Width
Roll Utilization (accounting for overlap, say 25% loss, 75% utilization)

For example:
2.75" od pipe has a circumference of 8.635"
Thats .72' of wrap to make one revolution around the pipe
Lets say I have 2" wrap wtih 75% utilization, i get 1.5" per revolution
Lets say I have a 5ft pipe..thats 60"/1.5 = 40 revolutions

40*.72 is about 29' of 2" wrap. You can play with the numbers to get your self an estimate.

so the formula would be:
(pipe outer diameter * pi/12 * pipe length inches/(roll width * utilization))/12
Which results in feet of wrap needed.

DEI has this webbased calculator ... probably going to get you as close as anything...

the beauty of xcel is you can make a list of pipes, determine a length for each and sort them so you can buy your spools of wrap in the right lengths.

Also you can save a nice offline copy and adjust for each pipes characteristics.

I wrapped my powerlabs kit. Every exhaust side pipe except the wastegate pipe since I'm open dump. Took me 2 rolls of 2x50 and was just enough. You'll need the long ss ties for most of the piping. Silicone spray it all afterwards, do not leave it raw. If u need anything else ask me, been there and done that with that kit. Good luck

sweet thanks. I might just run as is for now and wait until this winter and send everything in to get ceramic coated instead.

So have any of you guys actually seen a decrease in life of your headers (exhaust) after you wrapped them?
