NOTE: Disregard this long diatribe if you get off on wasting time. Elsewise, please consider this a plea for a return to some form of sanity.

Oh good gawd...

To ALL:
Can you PLEASE stop this incessant flaming back/forth and adversarial HH!! Holy crap!

Look, I get the flames on "noobs", "stupid questions", "search first", etc. But is the "verbalized public spanking" really necessary? Seems that of late, every other "new thread" or "new member" post elicits nothing but time wasting negative banter.

And for a guy who loves this site for it's REAL knowledge base but who makes his living at "defining and refining models of efficiency" for companies, it drives me absolutely nuts to have to read through all of the chaff to get to the wheat on any topic! It is just time consuming, time wasting, inefficient, and downright offensive!

Here's the thing, I can relate to the "search first" people BUT.... let me tell you - as a person who has spent the latter half of his career working for or consulting to (presently) search engine companies - the search function on this site is "so 2002" that I can also relate to those that get frustrated trying to find stuff here.

Let me explain: You do a search in the my350Z.com search bar and it does an adequate job of identifying THREADS that may or may not contain the specific answer to the query (dependent upon how well the search was constructed).

However, it still leaves the thread drill down to find the answer to the user. Reading through a years-old thread, populated with literally thousands of responses (with a large portion of them not very specific or side-topic'd) is a pain. If there were one suggestion I'd make to improve this site, it'd be to add the ubiquitous-in-industry, secondary "search these results" drill down function.

Side advice to frustrated searchers: Use google.com to search. Large percentage of queries containing "350Z" will show results from this site. Or, learn to use search operands such as "..." (parentheses to search for specific text strings), "and", "or", "not". And the best one if you are looking for something specific on a particular site, the "site:" query syntax. Example: "Uprev tuning site:my350z.com". You'd be surprised how well that works at finding more specific info on this site.

Back to my original rant...

While this should properly be posted in the "Declining expectations..." sticky thread, this thread - probably the fourth one I've come across with this type of immaturity in it today alone - just pushed me over the edge.

Note the word "immaturity". I once posted on this site that "...immaturity is NOT a function of age as this malady transcends all age boundaries."

So I ask nicely... PLEASE just take a pass on the threads you have nothing substantive to add to and move on with life. Humor I can tolerate, rampant negativity is, well, not a good thing. It is not your job (other than the moderators) to maintain the "etiquette and decorum" of this or any other forum (any more than it's my job to administer this "advice" - which is why I'm ASKING NICELY to try and be more civil).

Yes, I know it's the nature of an interwebs "forum" and there's "free speech" to account for and all; but this is getting pretty ridiculous, the sniping, snarking, and general childlike tantrums being thrown here. And that is an insult to children, sorry.

If you people wanna bish about each others "behavior", PM yourselves silly. The rest of us don't need to read about your issues that have nothing to do with Z cars.... the reason we're all here, noob or vets.

Mic

PS Sorry, just frustrated at the low signal:noise ratio.

Whupppps, too late.... Trav already did.

But ya, in my line of work, I'm paid to detail the details. Sometimes I wonder if the tech hipsters I consult for actually read my reports because they seem so aloof. But it's OK, at my hourly rates, they can wipe themselves with my docs. Besides, one liners will cause me to go broke.
