thought I would share my turbo build,
2003 nissan 350z manual, this isn't a guide or how to, Im not going to go in great detail of the parts ive picked or what ive done, will update
being the genius that I am I forgot to evacuate the A/C, Oh well I can work around it for now
broom handle worked wonders holding up the hood, the previous owner was replacing the oil pressure sensor and tighten it way to much and cracked the upper oil pan, got a new upper oil pan from him when I bought the car,
taking out the engine was pretty straightforward, ive had more hard times taking 4 cylinder engines out,
what a mess,
block and heads and crank are at the machinist
for the turbo
with four valve engine w/variable valve timing 95% VE
215.73 x .5 x 3000rpm / 1,728 = 187.26 215.73 x .5 x 6200rpm / 1,728 = 387
187.26 CFM x .95 = 177.89 387 CFM x .95 = 367.65
10 + 14.7/14.7 = 1.68 15+14.7/14.7 = 2.02
177.89 x 1.5 DR = 266.83 367.65 x 1.7 DR = 625
266.83 x .069 = 18.41 625 x .069 = 43.12
18.41 lbs/min of air at 3000 rpm and 43.12 lbs/min of air at 6200 rpm
Garrett GT3582R
180hp @ 3000 rpm 440hp @ 6200 rpm
haven't decided what im going to be using for a tuner, up rev, haltech, (nissan opensource)
doing the turbo fab myself,
304 ss .0065
Assuming youre using 304 for all the hot-side stuff?
I used .06" for my Y pipe and down pipes with a small ~2" section of ~.08" (I cant remember exactly) but if I had it all over again I'd make my down pipes thicker. With that being said, my .06" stuff has been doing fine.
oil was leaking into the spark plugs chambers because of the worn out seals on the rocker cover,
you can see the saturated oil sitting on the bottom, soda blasting the heads to save a couple of bucks or so I thought, machinist ended up putting them in the ultrasonic cleaner,
after soda blasting
heads are cleaned and the machinist is putting the new valve guides in,
haven't decided what turbo I'm going to use one on the right is a Garrett 60-1 the other is a rev 9 tx 72 38mm turbosmart wastegate (tech at turbosmart said that id be ok to use it long as it was 6 inches away from the turbo

exactly, time and time again we see people on here thinking they are going to do this or that, then either fail, dont realize the true cost or dont follow through.

good for you by posting the follow up.
well I spent 6 months learning how to tig weld, physically doing it and watching countless videos on you tube,
spent a couple of weeks reading a great book called "Turbo: Real World High-Performance Turbocharger Systems" because I knew nothing about how turbos worked watched 100s of fabrication videos, on youtube

yea … hat-tip … I got sick of a buddy thinking I was an open-check book and invested in a tig setup and I've screwed-up a bunch but I'm getting better.
Another good book (you've probably heard of it) Corky Bell's Maximum Boost - I still reference that book!
