The current state of 350z FI, and Boosted Performance specifically
I've had my Z for seventeen years, but only recently been getting the itch to finally add a turbo. Having another much faster car in the garage since 2020 has made it hard to motivate myself to play musical chairs with my cars, take the Z off the lift it lives on, and actually drive it. I put 66 miles on it last year. I still love the way it looks, drives and sounds - but it's slow!
So I've spent the better part of the last few days scouring this forum and the internet to try and work out which turbo kits that were top of the pile when I bought this car are still available today (GReddy, HKS, APS, etc). Turns out, none of them are available any more. I read through the same 'Forced Induction for noobs" thread that I probably read 15 years ago and found it is of course almost totally outdated in 2024, at least from the standpoint of which kits are actually being made.
So I lean on you, my long term 350z brethren to help me out with this.
As far as I can tell, this is someone selling kits under the name Boosted Performance, but not the same Boosted Performance that was doing it a decade ago with a strong reputation here. The previous company's facebook page has been deleted, while this one has only been active for 7 months. Has anyone here bought a kit from this company? They appear to be selling kits with very similar components to the BP kits from before, but hard to trust something that only exists as a Facebook page with 83 likes, no phone number, no address, no real names, and no presence anywhere else on the internet or on here. Is it at all possible that this is the same Boosted Performance, and there is some legitimate reason they disappeared from here, deleted their Facebook page and then popped back up again 8 years later??
Welcome anyone's thoughts on the current state of the FI market for DE 350z's or this question in particular. TIA!

- My strong preference is for a single turbo system, ideally top mount or mid mount. Ideally twin scroll. Not overly concered with cost.
- Power target is the usual '400hp until I blow it up or rebuild, whichever comes first', and then 600+ after that, using the same turbo. Retaining A/C and PS is a requirement.
- My car is a 2004 Enthusiast. It's caged, Amuse kit, Apex'i coilovers and titanium exhaust, CAI, Project Mu brake kit, 19" Volk GT-S, Michelin PS4S, and some other stuff.
- I've got a 4 post lift in the garage, all the tools and air, and have been working on cars since 1997, so I'm only looking at kits that are available to install myself.
- Soho Motorsports: Not available because of bullet point #4 above
- GReddy, HKS, APS, Powerlab, etc: Discontinued
- AAM / JWT: no single turbo kits
- SFR: Has a single turbo kit available, but not real keen given some of the reviews posted here in years past
- RZG or UnknownPerformance (rear mount kits): I like some aspects of a rear mount kit, but don't like others (lag, ground clearance). Not totally out of the question
- Rev9 / Turbonetics / ebay / etc: All out of the question. I will have this car until I die, it only has 60,000 miles on it. Avoided the temptation to put shitty parts on it when I was 25, not going to start now.
- Boosted Performance: A kit that was around almost a decade ago and seems to be one of the better kits that ever hit the market for this car. This is the one that has me confused, and here's why: www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61550778211245

That is the same Boosted Performance. I believe there was some copyright issues or something that forced him to recreate his page. You can reach out to him. I run the BP kit and have a full build thread on the process. I have zero complaints about my kit and have put 32k miles on it, including autocross and track miles.
I would recommend the water cooled turbo.

I was just about to ask you about the water cooled thing before your edit, because I caught your comment about that in your thread.
It's interesting that Sasha recreated a new FB page to sell kits through, but didn't come back to this forum. I think the last post I saw from him here was 4 years ago but when I messaged him on fb it seemed like he'd been making kits continually this entire time, which is what made it so confusing. Appreciate the quick reply!
BP mid mount or finding a used Momentum Kit would be my go-to. I snagged a used momentum kit and upgraded the components a couple of years ago while the motor was being machined/built.
You don't want an aliexpress chinese kit?!
I think I'm the only one on this forum that has the godspeed kit (now marketed as REV9)
I would of made a custom rear-mount had I done it again, but it's been on there for like 10 years and I haven't blown up yet(granted I'm pushing like 5psi max)
Maybe a rear-mount is an option for you if you can do some simple welding.

Both mid-mount and top mount will be difficult and/or expensive if you keep AC - its hard to route piping around them … not impossible but plan on spending about $2k to $2500 for just the hotside.
I appreciate that you want to install the kit yourself but you are in the middle of two likely situations (in that no kits are really produced anymore, Idk? And maybe look for a used kit? But that has it’s own issues as well).
Situation A. Hand your keys and a check over to a fabricator and they’ll call you when its done.
Situation B. Learn how to tig weld and build your own kit
Dont bother with a twin scroll turbo for a kit that merges bank 1 and bank 2 hot-side … it’s an oxymoron and will add cost and complexity … and both setups’ achilles-heel will be complexity (who cares about cost)…you will need simple and easy for the constraints you’ve mentioned.
Built block/600hp turbo kit will be different than a 400hp kit - mostly worried about the hotside (2.5” pass through pipe or 3” pass through pipe) and a 3” pass through will be harder than a 2.5” and assuming you need a 3” pipe to evacuate exhaust through the back of the car.
Unknown Performance does a midmount for the VHR and I suspect they’d do probably do a mid-mount for your DE.
The state of forced induction on the Z33 is at a ‘walking’ pace … its not like it used to be and the aftermarket has moved on the bigger & better things. But the DE will always be an applicable platform for aftermarket interest. Nissan made what?? 200k to 300k VQDE equipped z/g chassis?? And these are very tuner friendly - only chassis that’ll take a standalone, has piggyback tuning options, and flash tuning options - ECUtek just released their software for a car that hasnt been produced in 18years - what does that say about the future of the DE platform?
Further - there are many small shops and business that are still catering to the DE crowd - which is a good sign.

I know you chose the hard route for boost as far as effort vs miles driven, but I think you are over complicating quite a few things here.
There is a NIB BP kit for DE for sale right now on the marketplace that looks like a good deal.
Even has a koyo rad with it to make it easy.
You can call/message BP and order a kit today, likely that will ship out immediatly if OP wants new.
You keep AC, with zero funny business. You don't have to touch anything ac related.
The comp twin scroll 1.15 ar 6467 turbo with the BP kit is the easy button.
These kits will handle 400hp and 600hp and still be perfectly in the turbo's efficiency map, probably around 8 psi and 15-17psi w/ E for 600.
Most all midmount kits are easy for home install and a basic socket set. With a lift it is even easier.
