Exclamation 12SecZ please read...

Max,
You and I appear to be the only one with the belt issues..Here are a few pics of my pulleys and belt from the rear of the blower..The first pic is the pulley on the rear of the eccentric tensioner and the second pic is the pulley on the rear of the blower...Are yours chewed up like this??Its amazing what a little rubber belt can do to metal...I think I may know what the problem is..There are washers with lips on them that seat into the pulleys when you install them,I noticed the washer on the rear of my blower pulley was a regular washer..This may or may not cause the cog pulleys to seat further down the shaft, throwing the alignment off...Theory??Maybee...I was under the impression that the washers were designed to seat into the pulleys so they would be centered and not look like they were off center when the pulley was spinning..But maybe they serve a purpose in stopping the pulley from seating too far down the shafts..

Here is the second pulley..I am replacing both of them just in case the wear is causing the belts to chew up at 60,000 rpms...

My belts and pulleys were even worse than that.

The belt has fiberglass in in and the pulleys are aluminum, any misalignment or out of spect tension and the belts fiber glass will slowly eat away at the soft aluminum.

If this helps this is how I resolved my 3 belts tearing, I no longer have any belt issues so maybe it will help you too.

Serpantine belt the big long thi one. The Jack Shaft Pulley that the serpantine belt ran around was warped, it happened, stuff happens so I am not blaming anyone, too many people worked on my car. Maybe it came warped, maybe it wasn't tightened correctly after two installs but for whatever reason it was warped and cause the belt to run out of alignment costing me two bolts. Resolutiuon, new jack shaft pulley, runs true now, old pulley has obviuos signs of damage on back side that rubbed against the block area (big pulley) problem now solved 3 months no tears or wear.

Belt two fron cog around the #38 and 25 (the larger cog belt.)
Same thing, the warped jack shaft pulley also spins this belt so 2 belts broken there, plus it was rubbing, checks for signs of it rubbing anywhere nine was hitting the radioator shroud. No new belt there needed for about 1.5 nonths and no new tearing.

Belt 3 small cog belt on the compressor on the firewall side that goes around the shimmed pulley and number 22 teethed pulley.
Eric said my belt was too tight, it was it has ZERO play in it. EJ and I adjusted it to have .4 inches of deflection, I mean you can press down on it almost half an inch! Less stress on the pulleys, a full week later , tracked, street raced for several hard runs and a week of communting 2 hours a day at speeds of 100 at times 9hehe) no more wear, Eric was right again.

So bottom line all 3 belts were either a warped pulley, a rubbing belt a belt too tight or a misalignement or in my case all 3. A nightmare man but it's over I feel for you even ATI mentione you and I both dealing with this when I called and I hope you get it fixed soon. Don't give up, you have come to far.

the left #22 is worse than what shows in this pig that silver areas are jaggedy from the fiberglass in the belt and snag and yank the teeth off. 50 dollar pulley for that little thing man!

Just noticed something important, your belt is wearing down the center mine was cutting from the top, if you look close you can see the teeth being sliced off on the top of the belt not worn in the middle like yours. Wierd.

My procharger curently has a thousand miles on it and the pullies are showing the same signs. The belt is in new condition still and appears unharmed. My fingers are crossed for now in hope that the belt won't break. Both pullies on the rear side are shiny and appear to be scraped. The belt is tracking properly to my eyes and tension feels really good. What could be the cause and did your cars show these signs of pully wear at a thousand miles?

mine did that too........i now have 14,000 miles on my procharger and have not broken a belt yet.......my belts look great, although they have stretched a little.........you can either wait for the belts to stretch, or you can set them up with the ATI recommended 0.4" deflection.....either way, there's a chance that you may not have worn your teeth in such a manner that they will cut into the belt

I think I found the problem....
You know that little triangular shaped blower bracket on the front of the blower...You know the one ATI told me I could remove cause its not needed and is being removed on future kits..Well I hope they dont remove it I put mine back on and my belts are tracking fine and not riding up anymore..I think what was happening was that the blower was moving due to the load placed on the pulleys and without the little triangular bracket it flexed just enough to screw up belts..So I must make a point to call ATI on Monday an tell them what I found..I dont know why for the life of me I removed it and replaced the bolt with a shorter one,for that matter I dont know why I listened to them when they told me it wasnt needed..Its there for a reason guys!!!
Once again I must say, my problems were self induced one again...99% of my problems I have had were due to me "F"ing with things that werent broke to begin with
I really need to learn my lesson...

i think we've seen ATI's advice evolve after Z owners did the research for them........i.e. the manual that the kit comes with now is different than the manual that i received with my kit.......just look at how far we've come since last summer.......we've nailed down most of the pitfalls with aftermarket FI now........don't be too hard on yourself julian........if nothing else, than you helped someone else to know what not to do.........and that's what its all about.........helping people

That's weird. I don't have that bracket on my car either, but my belts are like good as new. Can you post a picture of the one your talkign about? I might have it confused with another one.

The bracket their talking about is on 12seczs bottom most picture and is located to the right and just above his serial tag. It is a smaller triangle bracket that the ATI install man. says for high boost applications only.
