Running the engine rich is prolonged damage. Basicly you are going to build up crap on your cylinders and through you cats and exhaust. Kind of like heart arteries full of fat.

With running rich you could cause detination if all that rich does light up, But it probably woudn't be catasrphic like with a lean condition. Get that bad boy tuned as soon as you can, but don't worry too much.
