Vortech SC -- Is this dyno possible???
I saw this dyno sheet on another board. They claim that the car has a tuned Vortech SC with intercooler, Crawford headers, and cams (don't know brand). It says 429 rwhp. Hard to believe.
not too hard to believe... its not a turbo install, nor a stillen install.
if its a boosted 350, it is an ATI or Vortech kit. you can tell its a centrifugal S/C because of the low torque, and the lack of it until over 4500 rpm...
i like the hp number, but i get that max. torque number at 3600rpm
can't wait for a 1/4mi number for the car in question.

Legal in California only for racing vehicles which may never be used upon a highway, currently this system has only been released for cars with manual transmissions

Yes, that is my dyno and no offense taken. Because it is a centrifugal SC, the low end torque isn't as pretty as a roots or TT. Still, I have found I can spin the wheels through 4th gear and part way through 5th with the power I have.... there's plenty of power for my use!
We are looking at trying a few tuning tricks to pick up a little more torque down low, but I mostly enjoy rolling launches so whether we get more or not, I'm happy.
This past weekend I raced an NA 350Z from about 75mph drop on the highway. As someone running chase asked me later, "Did you bark your tires at 80mph???? Man, I F---ing hate you!" Good enough for me!

One more thing... note that the graph you posted is STD corrected. The same data SAE corrected shows 419rwhp and I have another SAE graph (again same data, but different viewing software) that shows 424.9rwhp. So, I'm pretty sure on any given day I'm running between 410 and 430 actual rwhp.
SKiDaZZLe... will try to make it to the track soon, but first I have to learn how to launch with all this new power!!! Had a fully Crawford equipped Z (with a very experience drag race driver) hand me my butt over the weekend... basically, I had way too much wheel spin at launch. By the time I started catching traction and pulling the NA 350Z back in the street began running out (less than a 1/4 mile).
I'm looking forward to seeing the 1/4 mile times and, more importantly, the trap speeds, but I think it will take a good bit of practice (and maybe some more rubber on the back) to make for a good launch.

its definately a smog legal thing in cali, they have the strictest laws..and its not only highways, ita all roads unless its offroad. You will get a HUGE ticket in cali (or your state, depending) if it doesnt have a "carb legal" code on it, or if it doesnt pass emissions. here in fla only certain counties have emissions testing. not mine
It actually isn't hard to believe. Someone else put down 396 with just a crawford plenum, smooth tubes and a Borla exhaust. If you look at the graph, you can see a big surge in power at 5500 where the cams start to open it up. Below 5500 rpms, it looks like a regular Vortech car with bolt-ons. Above, the came really wake it up. There is actually still more power you could easily get out of the car by just raising the rev limiter since it has even hit the torque peak when it hits the limiter.
Good observations, Loren...
Is there anyway for me to raise the rev limiter without a full ECU reprogram? I don't want to change the ECU whole map, just maybe bump my rev limiter up to the 7000-7200rpm range.
BTW, 156mph speed limiter sucks! I finally got the ***** to try a top speed run on the way home from TN last weekend. My digital speedo hit 155mph and locked there. I didn't take my eyes off the road long enough to view the analog gauges. I'm guessing I was around 55-5800rpm. When the speed limiter kicked in my car was still had a steady, strong pull. It just leveled when I hit the limiter. That said, I'll probably never drive my car to that speed again... I was lucky enough to find a long empty stretch of I-40 East, but even with nothing else in sight, I was a little nervous. Car was rock solid, but I personally was in no way comfortable moving that fast!
