Default R4 software and the Tuner ?

The guy that Im having tune my car after the Vortech install has 20 years at dynoing and tuning cars....with cerification on lots of software for tuning ....but never has seen the R4 software ...My ? is...How hard or easy is it going to be for him to understand and use the R4 ? I dropped it off to him today [the software] and talking to him he sounded like he wasnt sure if he could use it or not. The guy knows his stuff....races for fun ..20 years doing this..has a ware house full of personally owned cars, alot of them race cars . He seems to be a perfectionist .Will it be hard for him to figure the R4 software out ?

Booger,

look in posts over the last week or two that talk about how you have to configure the R4 settings for the "new user" you create when you download the map from the SS box. Namely, you must change the System Settings display mode to "Vacuum/Pressure" and you MUST change the Output settings so that the auxiliary fuel pump will come on. To do this, set the Over RPM to something like 2000 rpms and the Over PSI to 1psi.

My advice is to familiarize YOURSELF with the R4 software and download the map onto a laptop from your SS box prior to tuning. That way you'll sorta know what's going on, you be assured of having the right connection (serial connector, etc).

I have posted screen shots and R4 tuning advice previously. I believe that username search still works doesn't it?

This is the post I'm referring to:

Make sure you remember to set the Output settings so that the auxiliary fuel pump comes on at around 1psi and/or 2000 rpms or so.

Him learning the software, which is experiance that he will keep. You're giving him all the info and the software is like giving him free hand tools. When someone gives me something for free. I give them back something in return.

If he charges you to learn, go by someone that already knows it, or learn it yourself and use the dyno and tune.

Agreed...you shouldn't have to pay for him to learn something. That $90 an hour figure is for an expert to tune a system...not someone that has never used it before and you get to pay for his learning of it.
