Default Greddy TT Installed - The Saga Continues...

Sup people,

So after 2 weeks the wait has finally ended, and it's time to log some things into my public diary... here goes.

On my first test-drive with one of the owners of the shop (Acosta Motorsports), a piece of the tensioner pulley fell off the car onto the ground. Ahh, we're off to a good start.

Searched for the piece, found it, put it back on the car, only to realize massive squeaking noises from the area. Took a day for me to figure out they were missing a washer piece in between to provide cushion. Finally got rid of the disgusting noise.

Driving impressions - apparently during the 1st drive there was a leak near the headers/exhaust, but even with that I hit 4-5lbs of boost and it felt great. Since I don't yet have a BOV (or any gauges for that matter), the sound during shifts is a unique little symphony. I'm still trying to figure out if it's just the wastegates, or if it's backsurge. Sounds somethin like "to do do do da loop da loop." Mwahaha Anyone wanna take a guess which it is ?

Picked up the car today, drove it around for a while. Found a few minor things that bother me...

1. There's a small rattling noise coming from the passenger side of the engine.. it almost sounds like a screw dangling around.. I'm gonna find out what it is as soon as I can take it to a shop. It's pretty quiet and I usually only hear it during idle. But it scared me initially... thought it might be detonation... shop said thats not it though, we'll see.

2. The steering wheel seems a bit harder to turn now.. and when it does turn, the car feels a bit softer... not as sharp/tight as I remember it. Meaning, there's a little bit of a lag between the time I turn the wheel and the time the car turns..

The shop's possible explanation for this was the fact that they had to move the steering wheel reservoir (actually they said they used a smaller replacement reservoir), so maybe the distance/whatever affects it.. does this make any sense ?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

All in all, I've had some serious fun driving the car. I think there might still be a boost leak somewhere because I hear a bit of unusual air-flow noise during acceleration.. but even with that, it pulls pretty hard. I love the turbos. Once I get all the details squared away, I'll be one happy guy.

Take it easy boys,
-slay

Double check if your power steering fluid is filled up the max line. TT kit requires the lines to be changed and refilled which most of the times the reservoir may not be up to the max level.

Hey Slay,
I know exactly what you mean about the noise on the passenger side of the engine. I have it too, but i've only noticed it at first start up and at idle until the car warms up. It then (maybe 5-10 minutes later) goes away. The noise on my car is most noticeable down low on the engine and I can hear it best if I get down near the wheel well on the passenger side. I thought it was detonation too, but have been told otherwise by tuner. I think it is coming from the intercooler piping.

I don't have TT but I had a similar noise coming from the passenger side after installing test pipes and it was the pipes being up against the body of the car so since you do away with the headers and bolt to the back of the turbos the cats may be up against the body.

Compressor surge, i believe, sounds like a chi-chi-chi-chi-chi-chi type chattering sound, not a loop da loop.

wow like...chew-chew-chou-chwe-cha-cho. Yup...definatley the compressor surge.

I forget who...but one dude had a TT kit installed and when they removed the starter, they accidently dropped a bolt into the transmission housing. so the car would make this weird rattle....especially at idle.... The techs at the dealer were changing this guys tranny and said...do you know that we found a bolt floating around in your tranny??

My car, and ZRAZYGO's have this little squeeky noise at about 2000rpm...especially just when I first start up the car. Is that the tension pulley thing you are talking about? I can only hear the noise for a few minutes on first start-up..then it usually disappears, but I have no idea what it is. It almost sounds sorta like a loose belt..but not the screeching noise of a typical loose belt. It is kinda like a gentle purr...but still irritating.

Yeah, that was one of the Atlanta members...

Ironic how quickly Nissan was willing to warranty it though, wasn't it?

After he talked with Doug last night, it sounds like it was a flyweel bolt which backed out. VERY unlikely for it to have dropped in during installation.

That was the consensis of the board, all hypothetical. Nothing conclusive

I don't know, I saw all the flywheel bolts still there when they had my tranny out. Nobody has been able to post a Nissan pic of a bolt that matches the one that came out of my tranny.

In fact, Nissan and numerous board members say that the bolt found in my tranny is not a Nissan bolt.

So for me, the whole thing is inconclusive, unless I can see a pic of a Nissan bolt that matches mine.
