Default Greddy TT -- Exhaust Gasket Question

I am hoping some people on our board can help me out with this.

With my last Tranny install my Nissan Dealer failed to tighten my passenger side exhaust manifold correctly. So I have had an exhaust leak with my Greddy kit.

The last tranny they installed looks like it will work, so I now need to have the leak fixed.

I have ordered new exhaust gaskets, and they will be installed shortly by a shop in Atlanta.

What kind of approch should the shop take on installing the gaskets? I know it's a tight fit to tighten the manifolds down, and I am hoping for some advise on approach.

Should they pull the engine and work from that point of view?

Or should they just try to take off the Wastegates and try to work it with the engine still in the car?

Any other suggestions?

How long should this take?

Any advise and/or direction is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Matthew

I assume you are refering to the actual manifold to head gasket. If so, that gasket replacement will require the removal of the entire passenger side turbo and all of its piping and components. It's about 1/3 of the total Greddy install...and is easily a two day job....even for a pro.

Question...when they changed your tranny, why did they touch the manifold at all? They should have just removed the downpipe and removed your wastgates. This would give them access to all the tranny bolts.

Also, if it's just a leak, can they just tighten down all the studs/nuts...or is the gasket all blown out.

Bini2, I pm you yesterday about the labor on the tranny replacement... Well my car right now is at nissan getting the tranny replaced and they are charging me 6 hours of labor for teh removal of the wastegates like gq_626 mentioned. I'm waiting for gaskets as well, but mine isn't an issue that the dealer didn't tight them, the shop that installed my TT kit apparently didn't tight it correctly. The nissan dealer found different type of bolts and some where loose. To the point again... My gaskets where gone, they where shattered.... All day yesterday i was up and down trying to find 4 gaskets, I called Greddy and many more people looking for 4 GASKETS.... Greddy mentioned that this is a problem they been hearing from many kits. The mechanic when he installed it he said that there was a chance of teh leak to happen. well it did!!!! The last person that i contacted was Tial because the wastegates are made by them. Haven't had any luck yet finding them yet.

Good luck with your leak, I'm trying to solve mine later in the future, when I more time I'll remove the manifolds plus the wastegates and take them to a machine shop and have them put it together(my mechanic's recomendation). But like I said when i have time...

P.S
Where did you find the gaskets?

Good Luck,

GQ, I don't know why they removed the manifold....I was pissed. Nissan removed both manifolds through. I told them to just remove the wastegates.

POPA, ok this is all messed up. I called Greddy 3 days ago. Greddy told me that they use the same gaskets as the factory gaskets. I have not seen the factory exhaust m gaskets, so I don't know if this is true or not. I think the tech was lying to me / ignorant.

It would not make sense if the gaskets are the same, can anyone confirm if they are different?

If they are different, POPA.......I am in the same situation you are in. Which shop are you having perform this work?

They are cool guys... I mentioned to the mechanic about your situation, so probably just say josh recomended you and they'll help you out.
About the gaskets the one that I'm looking for are the one's that conect the wastegates to the downpipes, if I'm not mistaking..

Bini2, I found the gaskets. We contacted Tial and they are sending them to us, so if you need gaskets give them a call.

What Greddy also told you about the exhaust manifold gaskets, is true! They used same as stock nissan, so you could get those from Nissan. The gaskets that I need are from Wastegates to Turbo.

Sorry for the many replies. I been ay work and I just got a chance sit my butt down and look at the post from an actual computer instead from my sidekick...

Great, I was really worried about not having the right gaskets.

Thanks for all the good information. I think I am going to wait on installing the Exhaust Manifold Gasket until I can drop the car off for a week.

I'd like to see your car, I plan on being at this event....if you have time swung by:

Default Thanx For The Invite!

Thank You for the invitation, but I won't be able to make it with the car. It si going to be sitting in the shop until I get the Gaskests on Monday.

I actually live like five minutes from there, I live on Ashford Dunwoody Rd. I work until seven also, if I have a chance, I'll try to make it.

I'll pm you my number if you ever want to meet up.

No problem about the info just trying to help.

I also would like to see your car, like I mentioned earlier we could always meet up at Barret Pkwy one night on a Friday or Saturday and show off a little... .

Let me know of any other meet I'll be sure to make it...

Thanx again,

wow....confusing...but I think I got it!

The exhuast manifold to head connection uses the stock Nissan manifold gasket. You can find them at the dealership for about $30.

The wastegate gaskets (there are two on each wastgate) and the same as the Turbonetics Deltagate Wastgate gasket and are $5 each. Contact Turboneitcs and they can put you in touch with a dealer that sells them. You need 4 total.

Hope that helps!

Bini, if you are planning to remove your exhuast manifolds, might I suggest replacing the shitty Greddy studs with something that is a bit depper? You'll notice that the stock head has 11 threads worth of depth, but the Greddy studs only have 6 threads of depth. You want to get something with more threads, so that stud will actually do its job without risk of stripping, backing-out, and breaking. (mine did. )

Not sure where to get new studs, but I'm sure you can check a high end nuts/bolts store.

Cool, might as well replace those while the manifolds are out.

Yes..I had the same leaky wastgates and so did 350Now...both due to the crummy paper wastegate gaskets that Greddy provided in their kits.
