Default Vortech or Stillen...Help me...

OK. I know this has been brought up before but im about to purchase one or the other tomorrow and need help making a decision.

I've looked at the dyno charts for both the stillen and the Vortech, and have noticed the low end torque diferences between the two, but what im also looking for as well is, which unit is more reliable???

How many out there with the Vortech have any issues with their supercharger later on down the road??

how many out there with the Stillen Stage 2 have had any problems with their's down the road?

Those that have bought the Stillen supercharger though, did you buy the Engine Warranty for the additional $300 bucks?

I've noticed a few threads about people talking about the belts on their vortech being cheap and replacing them with more durable better quality ones. If i buy the vortech, should i do this?

Another dumb question, if the belt on the supercharger goes out, what happens to the car? Are you completely SOL?

Thanks in advance for your guy' help..

Jim

if the belt goes out, there will be no boost, but you will be ok. I have the stillen, for about 5000 miles now, 1 dragstrip day and 3 days on the racetrack without problems. I am burning excessive oil, but I don't think its stillen related, since several early vin people have had this problem. I love the stillen and would do it again. its the only mod I feel I got my money's worth out of. I have the stage 3, and I bought it used, so I don't have the warranty. However, due to the fact they offer a warranty, and got their CARB exemption on the 1st try, plus their engineering background and relationship with nissan, I'm not worried about it.

The belts that come with the V kit are just fine...the only problem is that it [the serp belt ] stretches and you run out of adjustment .The blower belt is fine . The only thing with the Stillen that I dont care for is...you need to spend extra on a hood...that is not good looking ...to me

If the serpentine belt on the Vortech was removed you'd have problems since that drives other stuff. If the cog belt were removed you'd be fine so long as you took it easy.

When I get back from Iraq, I will be getting a '05 350, and not long after putting some sort of FI in it. After driving a 300ZXTT for about 8 years, I've found that while pushing turbos to a really high boost is great fun, for daily driving, I would rather have the low end torque of a supercharger.

So, I love the warranty and CARB certification of the Stillen kit, but I hate the hood . What to do, what to do?

Well, a couple more months to decide, assuming I'm not one of the unlucky ones who gets extended in Iraq.

Dave,
1st, thanks for serving!

2nd, if you haven't seen the hood in person, don't say you hate it yet. I didn't care for it either until actually seeing it. It looks MUCH better in person.

I do believe, though, this a fairly nice picture of mine:

No, sorry, I do hate the hood, and have seen it in person.. Part of my like of cars is sleeper cars, that is cars that don't look too different from the stock factory versions. My 90ZTT had a spolier, and thats about it. For body modifications, I mean. It put down 452 rwhp, power wise, and had numerous suspension and brake enhancements.

I have the same plans for a 350. But I do need to to do it with mostly CARB legal stuff, and I really don't like the power hump. Personal preference.

What gauges do i need for this Stillen Setup???

I would like to be able to watch the performance of the supercharger and look out for problems.

Well, I can't speak for Stillen specifically, but on any FI engine, you want a wideband air fuel meter, or an exhaust gas temp meter (EGT is a bit better), and a boost gauge.

Other gauges nice to have are oil temp (oil is what lubricates and cools the turbo/supercharger, assuming your turbine of choice is connected to the main oil system) and an oil pressure gauge (whihc the Z has already)
