Default vortech bov, whoa i now understand what you mean

Holy crap is this thing noisey. Its got that very high pitched whistle after coming to a stop and idle intermittently. Thats not so bad. Its the decelerating in vaccuum that sound like a old chevy work truck running on the break squealers CRAP. Anyways ive adjusted the bov to 5 threads but does not seem to make a difference. Also I noticed that unless im in full boost and shifting at readline the bov does not psssshhh it flutters: psh psh psh.

You shouldn't have the flutter... the compressor surge is bad... It happens when you tighten your BOV too much.
Anymore opinions about this? I'm not too good on this subject but this is what I've heard most people say.
I have that high pitched whistle and so does one of my friends. I don't think that's supposed to happen so I'm going to call Vortech to see if they can replace mine.

i have the whistle too, i dont think that it is too bad since a lot of other people have the same noise. and the flutter that you have is not good, like cwtroy said, it is compressor surge. Vortech recommends that you run the BOV fully open so that the air can vent easily. I have mine fully open and there is no flutter...

turn the helmte on the BOV counterclockwise (about ½, to LOOSEN the assembly), WITHOUT adjusting the jamnut.... it sounds like you're jammed up (if you are hearing this with 5 threads above the nut showing)

you should NOT get the surge, and will get a CEL thrown soon, if not careful....

I had 9 threads showing on my BOV . I adjusted it down 1 or 2 threads at a time till I DID get the flutter when I let off the gas from heavy or WOT .Then I backed it off one thread and It hasnt done it since . I have 6 threads showing now .

So even under say 1 lb boost when i shift i should not get any flutter? Also when i open it up more will it whistle a lot more at idle. I am currently waiting for the filter from vortech and will do the "es" stage 1 mod when i get it. Its a little dissapointing driving it right now with all the leaking squeaking sounds. Another thought was to re route the bov back into the system. Any thoughts on that.

let me guess::

its the blue helmet B.O.v.

i STILL have a red (w/polished trumpet ) here, which when i swapped mine out, made the whistle (idle and certain rpms on decel) GONE....

this is brand new from vortech, and oddly enough, the other red one i had did the trick.... the only sounds left afterwards was the venting sounds...

it would be interesting to see if there is a diff. springrate in the reds, or if maybe the aswembler of the red units actually did something differently??

i dunno, but i am sure relieved when i popped the red one on and things went quiet... (relatively speaking)
