Question Which clutch?

Currently I am running a Vortech SC w/9 lb pully. I am putting down 408 rwhp and 330 lbs of torque. I am still using the stock clutch and flywheel.

For those of you that have changed your clutch and flywheel, what did you go with? and why?

Your response will be appreciated.

I have the Tilton dual cerametallic disk. I liked it, but I think I am going to change to the dual carbon disks.

I also have the CM stage 3 and I love it. I am still N/A but have had many launches on it at the track with no problems at all. We also installed it on one of our sponsored cars who is running the Procharger and not 1 problem. Shoot me an email if you would like more info
Thanks,
Jason

I have a clutchmaster stage 4. Decided on the stage 4 because i'm building the engine for more power and am currently close to 400 rwtq now at 8.0 psi. The stage 4 clutch isn't friendly for the street. That's just my opinion, but the problem is from a dead stop. Virtually no room for error or slipping. Otherwise, its fine.

My problem with the stage 4 clutch and flywheel: I had the clutch and flywheel installed by Nissan and paid some ridiculous amount like $913 for installation only because the wastegates were in the way and made it more difficult for the job. As soon as I got the car home and listened to it at idle with the clutch disengaged, all I heard was this annoying rattle like two pieces of metal vibrating together. Four Nissan techs, including their "master mechanic" hear it and immediately say its a bad throw out bearing. Tell me to get a new throw out bearing from CM and they'll put it in for me and that will take care of the issue. So CM sends me a new throw out bearing and I pay an additional $743 to have it put in, and guess what? The noise is still there? Can anyone tell me what this is?

Sounds like what everyone else with an aluminum flywheel expierences, the cement mixer sound at idle. Its normal because aluminum flywheels are not usually perfectly balanced at any two opposite sides. At low rpms the flywheel will cause that metal to metal sound you are refering to. The only light weight flywheel I know of that has less of this problem is JUN's chromoly flywheel. I just dont know if it will mate with any of the CM clutches.

No, I'm not forced induction on my G35...but I said I had a Cluthmaster state III on my other car, which has 381.5 rwhp & 361 ft.lbs torque with no problems, I love the CM. When I do go forced induction on my G...I'm going CM stage III.

Did you just go with the clutch or flywheel as well?

Actually I went the an billet flywheel(slp)...it's lighter than stock, but not quite as light as aluminum. I don't know if anyone makes one like that for the Z/G though. I would just get the flywheel with it. I'm sure it's fine.

Yancy:

It could be gossip, but I heard from someone that everyone who's getting the rattling are using unsprung discs . . . does that mean a sprung disc will work without a hitch? Hell I don't know. It's up for discussion though

It could be totally unrelated, but we had the same problem with the 3rd gen eclipses and from what we found, it was improper installment of the TOB (something about it being aligned) . . . needless to say, I had the clutch, TOB, and flywheel replaced and no probs. Here's the catch: was it because of proper alignment or the sprung disc I used???

Someone throw us a bone

Just get the cluthmaster stage III and be done with it . Lol. Just kidding, I know a clutch is a big investment (especially since they are a pain to install).
