Question Timing retard with the Vortech SC

How have you guys adjusted your timing retard in the R4 software?

From Vortech, it takes out 8 degrees in the 6500 cell and 10 in the 7000 rpm cell. It starts pulling timing, regardless of boost at like 3500 rpm.

I'm planning on adjusting this this week and I wanted to know what other peoples tuners have done.

Also, I found out, from split second, that the rpm cells govern 400 below and 100 above, so that the 2500 rpm cells operate from 2100 to 2600 rpm. I thought that was interesting.

Yes....its reading the next cell . Vortech does take out way to much timing .And thats on top of the 2 or 3 degrees the stock ECU is taking out .Some guys are taking timing out at each rpm's level , starting at 4,500rpm .Im taking it out with boost levels , starting at 2.5psi . Im doing it that way , so it can be taken out more gradually

This is why the Vortech kit doesn't pop motors out of the box...

actually, looking at everyone's timing maps, the only real place that we have put back timing pulled by vortech is at the top of the top end in the 6500 and 7000 rpm box.

It seems that no one is really adding back timing in the power band between 3k and 6k.

Above 6000 is where you need to leave the timing retard in. The ECU ramps the timing from about 20deg BTDC to about 28deg BTDC between 5800 and 6600 rpm. The timing retard is in there to protect the engine from deonation at the high RPM, not between 3k and 6k.

By the way, the Split Second box reads ahead about 350 rpm. Anything set in the 6500 box comes in about 6150.
