Will I Need A New Thermastat For Vortech
I put a Nismo thermostat in when the GReddy was installed, but I have seen mixed reviews on whether it is really necessary. I don't think it can hurt.
I also put in the radiator cap, which one member posted held TOO much pressure and caused an engine to fail. He said the cap was tested and held 30+ lbs of pressure, allowing super hot water to circulate through the engine. I don't want to hijack you're thread Barzten, but if anyone knows how to check the cap, it would save me a trip back to the shop. To this day my overfill reservior is empty.
Best of luck with the Vortech.

I didnt change the thermostat or cap . No problems at all . I ran my car pretty hard a few times this summer and never got hot .Guess it all depends on the car and where you live .
I have the NISMO 180degree thermo. I have a Gsedan and it comes equipped with a mechanical fan. I put an aftermarket efan in and felt the lower thermo might help things since I am running aftermarket in my cooling system. I bought the thermo used, and the previous owner had his first one fail and render his car useless until it was changed. He never got a refund for the bad part. Courtesy Nissan was the supplier.
Goodluck, I have the Vortech and it's been great.

I haven't had any issues with my thermo or cap, either. I run it hard and it was fine in a Texas August.

This is more important for those with the crappier 91 octane gas.
Something else to note , inorder to make the lower thermostat more effective (for city driving) the Electric fan "turn-on" point should also be lowered in kind.
i highly recommend lower temp thermostat. When tuning the FCON in my 350z I noted about 10hp increases from letting the water temp cool to 175-180 degrees before starting the pull. My water temp is around 195 regularly and yesterday at the track it was getting up to 210-215. I need to install my NISMO thermostat.
