The time comparison isn't the real point here. The point is if it's bolt on and can be done within a weekend (which it is I think). Who cares how long it takes you to take off your test pipes? (anyone reading this forum isn't going to care about your pipes) I was referring to the possibility of spending one weekend for another two years on the street. The reality is: most Z owners are not going to have the expertise to install or the time to learn to install the kit. They're going to have the money to let someone else break their back for them (maybe that someone is you, but then again maybe not). Don't be too quick to judge.

this might be the kit for me too. Not too too expensive and the CARB stuff doesn't matter to me. I had never really realized it but i dont have to pass the sniffer. I worried about that with the test pipes and was talking to this guy i know at the gym who has a 350z too and is a cop in my state and he was the one that told to get them cause i dont have to pass smog, haha. I'll have to wait and see some people actually getting these things installed and run for a little before i'd buy one though, but it looks good.

Depends on where you live and your car is registered.

From the DMV website
"If your vehicle is garaged in the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, or Stafford, or the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas or Manassas Park, your vehicle must meet the emissions inspection requirements. Inspections are valid for two years and may be obtained by having your vehicle inspected by a certified emissions inspection station."

Yes but theres always a "certified inspection station" that will look the other way for a few extra Franklins..

so true. I'm just hoping for some way that we won't have to deal with the hassle of the sniffer.

Good luck in finding someone to pay off. The mechanics have to pass a smog test that is hard to pass and if they get caught signing off an illegal car off, they will lose their smog cert. and get fired.

If my families security was on the line like these guys are, I would not sign anything off that is not passing smog. So what, you wave $100 in front of their nose, that is nothing compared to losing your job and house.

In Nevada you can easily find guys that will look the other way for a $100 "tune up". So it's just depends on you state I guess.

Maybe you can find someone that is stupid enough to take that risk and I do mean stupid considering the risk they are taking.

Look, we are are all adults here and it is really simple, if you put a turbo or SC on your $35K car you invested in and it does not have CARB cert. then it is illegal to operate on the street. Will you get caught, maybe, be not. How bad do you want power and how much are you willing to risk? Are you willing to pay $5000 to $8000 for a kit, pay someone 30 hours to install it, and then maybe pay 30 hours to have it pulled off? Are you willing to risk blowing up your motor and void your factory warranty? If you can afford that then you can take the risk.

I have seen some people install FI on their Z's and then complain there motor blew up. Just remember, the risks and if you are willing to take them, enjoy it. The power is awesome in those cars.

Do we know how much power this turbo can flow with a built motor?? On a forged lower compression motor I would need to be able to turn up the boost to 12-14 lbs. Will the ecu re-flash be able to handle this if we add a boost controller to the kit?? I realize the fuel may be an issue but with the AAM return system the fuel supply will be O.K. But will the re-flash handle the higher boost?

Well the turbo is good for 650 WHP. You may need to call technosquare to see if they could custom tune it for you. Also you could add an e-manage to the flashed ECU if you really wanted to be able to tune it on your own.

This dyno is for Boost and HP.

Where is the Dyno for HP and TRQ?

We still lack details as far as engine and exhaust setup.

I was speaking with jeff/03z33 and he mentioned something about seeing the kit at sema. From what he mentioned it is
not clear as to how the turbo is connected to the stock exhaust.

I think he may have even mentioned the CATS are deleted at this time. That leaves a lot of room for HP as CATS are huge bottle neck, there may be 20/30HP just in that alone.

This also indicates the boost is around 9LBS 5700ishRPM to get 360HP where I am running at 7lbs.

They max at 9.1 lbs to get 390hp.

I don't know how "safe" this is for the VQ, does anyone have this info? Also I think someone posted already about something asking about boost levels for this engine, however they were asking about "built".

I'd like to know FIRST and foremost what we can expect with STOCK as most FI customers are not going to jump and build their engine up.

Please key in on the word "most" as I didn't say ALL or NO ONE. I think it's fairly safe to say that. Most is to be is 30/40% less than half but damn near.

(lets see how this post goes over)
