Default Went to the track last night...AND BROKE

The only good out of it is I did get my 12 sec run...12.98 @108 . The bad news is...it sputtered all the way home [60 miles] . I was at the end of a run....in 3rd [AT5] reaching just about 6,800rpm and I heard and felt it miss fire and sputter . 1 or 2 cylinders dont fire . No smoke out of the tail pipe , No water in the oil . On the way home going between 55 and 60....the A/F gauge is jumping from 14.7 to 11.8....mostly staying around 12.2....and every few minutes it would jump up to 14.7 for half a minute...then go back to 12.2 . Off the top of my head I would say....I floated a valve...coil pack..... or a spark plug .Any idea's from you guys out there ? ........And now for the bad news...lol....The other owner of this car....[ my girl friend ] says no more racing . She really has been great about me building this car to what it is . And just asked me not to race it all the time . The car isnt paid for yet , so I understand where she is coming from . Taking the car to the dealer Monday to get the bad news. If they have to pull the motor , I would love to do the rods and pistons , but I dont think I could offord it right now.....still paying for all the stuff Ive done to it so far . does any one have total cost for doing pistons rod any every thing else needed ?.......a million things going thru the head right now.....and Im bummed.....Bill

The best place to get the general costs of a longblock build is from the SGP racing site. They spec a few "short/longblock package options". This is the start of the new VQ35 "crate engine biz", so prices are going to get more competitive nationwide.

Well, I wouldn't say anything is blown up just yet. Check your plugs first, see what they look like.

I am very sorry to hear this, please keep us informed once you speak to the dealer. I hope all goes well.

Are you running 9lb or 10lb at the moment?

I recorded my first 2 runs last night with the R4 .I was hitting 9.5psi at 7,000rpm and that is when I crossed the 1/4 mile mark . @108.6mph . I do plan on pulling a couple of the easy to get to plugs today...will post the results of my findings

I just pulled the front 2 plugs....they look perfect . Tip and electrode...not black...not white....Its not going to be those 2 cylinders...the next 2 back are to much of pain , I'll let the dealer hook up his gadgets and find out which is bad . Still starts and runs.....but it sounds bad

If you dont have smoke, my guess is a blow coil pack, or something else that is making a cylinder not fire. That is probably why your A/F is bouncing around rich. Could be a floated valve too, but probably unlikely at that RPM. Good luck..hope its nothing serious.

The basic motor build-up is roughly $5000 including labor and basic parts...$6000 tops. PM me if you need pistons and rods....do I sound like a broken record yet?

Well...just got the call....the #4 cyl is bad . The plug electrode had been compressed . Dealer said he stuck a scope down it to the cyl. and said you can see bad scatches on the walls .How can the cyl come up and crush the plug ? Im going right now to take a look at it .

Plug is probably damaged from detonation. Porcelain probably shattered and scoured the walls of you're cylinder.

I looked inside of the cyl. . A small thin chunk on the cyl. broke off the edge . Only 10lb's of compression . The plug was alright..just no gap at all
