Default Vortech vs. Twin Turbos? Yeah...again.

I would like to hear from both camps (people who actually own Vortech or Twin Turbos) why they went with supercharger or turbocharger. I'm really leaning towards the APS system when it's available for my G35, but I want F/I now and Vortech seems pretty good and decently priced, but I'm worried about the whine at normal cruising and the boost is higher on Vortech which may be harder on the engine?? My type of driving is street driver, not a track racer, so I think I may like the lower end torque of the turbos.

Anybody want to give me a ride with Vortech or TT?

Help me out -- chime in with random thoughts or ride offer!

drive up to NM, you can take a ride...
i went with TT because I eventually plan to do it right, built up the motor, and would like to be able to control the boost and have it set for everyday driving, and then turn it up safely if needed. tunability factor

and i'm a sucker for how a turboed car sounds!

To answer a couple of questions about the Vortech.

1. It doesn't whine. It sounds almost like an amplified pop-charger. And if you are cruising along at a consistent speed, you will barely hear it. ( Or I should say, you will get used to the sound it makes and not pay attention to it) Either way it is not loud. The only sound I don't care for is at idle. You can hear the pulleys rumbling around. (or whatever that sound is)
2. The boost is higher, but it is more gradual than a TT. A TT may make maximum boost at 3000rpms. The Vortech is only starting to make boost around 3000rpms. In my opinion the TT puts more stress on the engine because max boost is reached faster. The Vortech makes max boost at redline.

There are several reasons I chose the Vortech over a TT setup. For one, it is the best bang for buck. Two, most mechanics will tell you that a supercharger such as the Vortech design is the best forced induction application for a naturally aspirated engine. Also, my goal is around 400rwhp. If you are looking for more than that, definitely go with the TT. I like the linear HP and TQ curve the Vortech provides. Others like the kick that a TT gives. So there is my $0.02. It all comes down to what your big picture is.

Hope this helps a little.

Great idea to want to ride in both TT and SC 350Z's. I highly recommend that to anyone that is strongly considering FI their 350.

I have ridden in and driven both SC and TT 350Z's. I would say that all of them would make a hugh majority of people happy. The power in all FI Z's I have been in is satisfying.

Some people are simply SC people, others are TT people. For those that have not made up their minds either way, budget, application of use, and potiential for future engine modifications are things to consider.

FI 350Z owners, help this guy out, give him a test ride.

Enjoy and good luck,

Hey louZer you have about the same mods as me. Just curious my y-pipe broke in to! It was on only three weeks...maybe. I hardly drive my Z. The y-pipe broke right at the weld on the end of the y. Did you get any noticable gain with yours?

What Y-pipe do you have? Or should I say, did you have? I had the Borla TD before my current setup and wanted something a little more aggressive sounding. I was also hoping to pick up a more torque with the single pipe vs. a true dual setup.

When I switched, I lost 10HP up top, but gained 7TQ up top. I also gained more HP and TQ throughout the rpm range. Which is fine with me because high HP #'s up top are only for bragging rights.

The JIC Y-pipe is shaped more like a "Y" than a Fujitsubo or Nismo y-pipe. It looks to me like it would flow better, but I am no expert.

I have heard of y-pipes cracking with test pipes because there is nothing to absorb the heat. But that is usually from running the car hard on a track. Since you hardly drive your car, it sounds like you got a defective y-pipe.

I will post pics of the JIC and Fujitsubo so you know what I am talking about.
