Default Ignition timing harness

hey guys I just got my car back from the shop after installing and tuning my E-01. Well the shop didnt use the ignition timing harness and the external signal harness. He says I didnt need it. Is this right? He also said that Greddy doesnt want you to mess with the timing as well. So he didnt do anything with my timing. He tuned my fuel system though. What do you guys think?

I think he was misinformed. If you are running 91 octane fuel, I consider timing reduction manditory...even at stock boost. If you running 93 octane, you should be ok at stock boost, without timing retard. But even so, its a good idea to back off a little bit of timing.

So what do you think about the timing harness that I ordered with the E-01? Do I need it to tune the car correctly or not?

could you elaborate a little more on the timing harness and any details a tuner would need to know to properly tune it.... i'm having the profec e-01 put in on thursday.. and the timing harness should be here by next week... how will adding the timing harness at that point require the car to be retuned? time involved?

You cannot use the timing harness that Greddy ships.

(Unless something lately has changed)

There is a vendor on here who has a custom harness FOR the emanage that can sell you one that WILL work.

Well the shop told me that Greddy say dont mess with the timing so he left the timing alone. I dont know if it is the right thing or not and he also left my AF ratio at 9.8. He said it is the safest. I guess he is just concerned about my engine I think. I think he knows that it cant handle much power without building the bottom end. He said that he can get it to 11.5 or so and gain more HP but he didnt want to blow my motor so he left it at 9.8. Is all his suggestion a good suggestion? or is he just being too cautious?

At 9.8 that is what the kits comes with from my dyno run.

Did they actually modify or install new MAPS? Since you cannot modify the existing MAPS they would have had to create new ones with new figures and probably take 1+ hours in the dyno if they new what tehy were doing and easier if they did with a laptop.

You can use the Greddy timing harness you just need to create a timing MAP to put int the timing reduction, some have installed it with diodes to prevent frying the coils.

Phoenix, the Greddy timing harness DOES work. Greddy recommends not using it becuase they havent done the testing to release a new harness with diodes so you dont fry coils.

THe workaround, as mentioned is to have the tuner install diodes on the ignition coil output wires on the harness. It's about $6 in parts, and at least a dozen of us have been using this setup for thousands of miles without any blown coils.

Your tuner is not being honest here. 9.8:1 is pig rich, and can cause damage to your engine. Anything sub 10:1 is what I consider dangerously rich. THis can result in cylinder wash, and even rich detonation. Too much fuel essentially can "wash" the cylinder walls of oil, and mess up your rings and walls. At 9.8:1, I doubt you are doing any damage, but it is far from ideal. The "safe" tuners will tune for 11:1 to 11.5:1. This is still very rich, but nice and safe.

He probably didnt realize that he had to initialize the eManage in order to make changes to the fuel and timing tables. He either needs to start from scratch, or reenter the stock fuel values, which you can find on the board, or he can call Greddy and get them.

Regarding the timing tuning. You need to check the box on the profec called "ignition timing map", in the parameters section. Then you will subtract timing in different areas...just like you add fuel with the "add injector table". In the timing table, -1 would mean -1 degrees of timing.

I hope you have seen the previous threads about a "Logic Flaw"
with a new empty E01..

When the unit is installed in the USB port of the E-Manage
The EO1 will ask the question "Update the device"
The correct answer is No..
If you answer Yes the EO1 will wipe out the program bios in the
E-Mangage and it's lights will flash green and red.. Car will run rich.

If this happens you must Re-Program E-Manage with a Lap-Top
and Serial to E-Manage Cable..

I'll let GQ_626 and 350NOW explain the finer point's of your tune.. But I will aggree you are running "Pig Rich" also GQ's
Early Dyno run's were 377 Rwhp with minor Waste Gate Gasket leaks.. But he was at an optimum 11.5 A/F Ratio...

Cheers Amy -
