Default 5at tranny smooth?

i have a noticeable noise when the tranny engages from drive to reverse or vice versa. do you guys have this? i went to the dealer and checked out some other g's and they all seemed smooth as silk, with no noticeable engagement noise or body shift.

My 5AT is so smooth that you can barely feel it shift. When I take it to redline and am really pushing it you can feel it but the rest of the time you can't tell when it shifts. The noise you're getting between drive and reverse may be caused by the idle being too high. What is your idle? Mine runs about 600 - 700 rpm. My car is a 2004 with about 20K miles on it.

this is a good time for you to take advantage of Infiniti's services. Give your dealer a visit and tell them what your problem is.

I wouldn't say its way high but it could be high enough to cause your problem. I had a van that would clunk when it went into gear but the idle was around 100 rpm. It's something to check.

Tell them that you've asked around and found out that your idle is higher than normal.
