What do your Nissans/Infinitys weigh?
I've heard some rumors that Nissan uses a lot of platform sharing in its Nissan/Infinity lineup. Cars such as the Maxima, Altima, 350Z, Quest, M, & G. I thought it might be probable because many use the same 3.5 V6 power plant, and some even seem to share the same body outline. Can anyone confirm this? If this is true it defiantly is good for $Nissans$ wallet but arenÃÕ some of the drawbacks of too much platform sharing, that you end up with heavy cars that tend to have a lot of body flex? On average what do your cars weigh? Thanks.

The Z, G35, and FX35 share the same FM platform. I believe the new M is using a modified and stretched FM platform. Why not use a platform more than once if it gets the job done. Nothing bad can come from platform sharing especially if its a very good platform. Nissan created a platform that is very flexible (meaning you can do alot with it) and it is also very good with weight distribution. I have never heard of anyone saying that Z's or G's have alot of body flex as you are stating. They handle like a dream. Even the FX35 handles very well. It feels like driving a car. I'm sure the car flexes a little like most cars, but not alot. The FM platform is quite often praised for its balance
As for bodyoutlining, yes they share some little similarities between the two lineups, but what company doesnt. You can see the likenesses between Lexus and Toyota as well as Acura and Honda. You have to remember, Infiniti is Nissan, Lexus is Toyota, Acura is Honda. Theres bound to be some similarities.
The VQ V6 engine is used in almost all V6 nissans and infiniti's minus the V8 ones. They just have different horsepower ratings and all infiniti's are RWD/AWD while nissan (minus the Z) are all FWD/AWD. This is a good thing since it makes the engine very reliable. Also, the VQ has been in the top 10 best engines in the world for 11 years in a row (no other car company has accomplished this). Ward's named it possibly the best V6 ever created. A big plus for nissan
