I found myself being held up by a GTO at Road America - so I have a first hand knowledge of the performance of the car. I'll leave styling and reliability alone for now (which is probably better for the chances of the GTO!)
The GTO tore up the straights at Road America, but bogged everybody down behind it in the turns - there are better handling stock Neons I think!
If you want power and want to stand out - I would get a G35C with FI - that way you'll smoke the GTO on the straights, the curves, and still have a more reliable (if you do your tuning right) car and certainly a nicer looking one.
As to how common the G is - sure, in Cali it is. But here in Illinois the coupe still gets heads turning. The GTO just looks like another GM POS as far as I'm concerned.
But hey, you should expect an answer like this on a G forum. In a GTO forum they'll be talking about the slow, heavy, big-butt Japanese vee-hickle.

P.S. Yeah, I'll take a Cobra over the GTO in a second, regardless of on or off the track. But outside of the track and 1/4 aspects, I'll still take the G over either - it's simply a better all-around car. And if you FI the G - then your power concern is taken care of!

The GTO is the choice if you want to have it for the drags plain and simple. The LS2 motor is a monster, although not cheap to mod as, Corvette engine
= Corvette prices. As far as it being less common, the styling, even though better than year one, is pretty anonymous. It does look like an inflated Cavalier. I actually prefer the looks of the Grand Prix GTP that used to fill that space in the Pontiav linup. It had plastic but is wasn't a copy of any other car.
If you want the car for things other than drag racing the choice should also be simple. The finish, handling, and reliability are going to be better in the Infiniti, and the Infiniti will hold it's value better. BUT, one spin around the block should sell on which is the right one for you. One of them will "speak" to you more than the other and that is what you buy.

I can't stand the look of the GTO, love the motor though. It looks sooooooo plain. They should've revamped the look a little more, a more nostalgic look like the new Mustangs. If I have to buy an American muscle car, I would consider the new Charger.

Speaking of Australian muscle cars, check out this Ford http://gamesanddownloads.com/sportsc...FPV_GT-P/2.jpg

It is a "BA Falcon GT" and has a 390hp 5.4 litre engine dubbed "The Boss". It is still like 1970 down there.
