Default Oil cooler(s) in a G35.

Figured I'd post it here instead of the tech forums since it pertains to G35s. This isn't really a how to, just posting in case anyone needed an idea about where to place your coolers.

Tranny and power steering coolers (tranny in front). This would be on the left side of the radiator. Had to relocate the horns.

I felt that it was pretty important to keep at least one half of the radiator relatively free of obstruction.

And for the oil cooler.

I know what you're thinking. How the hell is that oil cooler going to get any air flow? My solution:

It's amazing what you can do with a putty knife and a heat gun.

I used B&M coolers of various sizes all remarkably affordable and available from Summitracing.com. My next trick will be steel braided silicone lines now that everything is pretty well fitted.

I would've thought that putting it all in front of the radiator would've been better. The temp increase across the smaller coolers I wouldn't think would be that large given the amount of air flow in the front.

I love the vented plastic shield - hot putty knife, eh? nice! What a great way to keep the front brakes running cooler... I'm debating whether having the slots facing up or down is better to prevent air/dirt entry? You've got 'em both ways - hedging your bets, eh?

Thanks for posting the pics - neat ideas...

That's why it's louvred (and they are all facing down). The only way that water can get in is if you are going in reverse real fast.

Tranny BMM-70268 11" x 7 1/2" x 3/4"

Power steering BMM-70264 6" x 11" x 1 1/2"

Oil BMM-70266 8" x 11" x 1 1/2"

Got them all at Summit Racing. Haven't upgraded the TC yet. I'm not completely sold on it's benefits. I'm sure that it's excellent for drag racing, but I'm more set up for road racing.

Note: The tranny and PS coolers are kits. THey include hose and mounting hardware. The oil cooler doesen't. You'll have to get 1/2 inch hose and fittings. Brass fittings are readily available at your local home depot.

Or you can get this BMM-70270 kit which has the same size oil cooler but you'll end up with a GM sandwich adapter that you don't need.
