How do people still not know about automatic transmission drivetrain losses??? AWD will do that to you too.

You also mentioned "custom built exh.", who built it, some custom shop built exhausts may or may not perform as good as say an HKS or Greddy. Maybe this part of your problem.

dyno numbers differ greatly from dyno to dyno... unless other G's are dynoing higher on that same dyno (i.e. that exact one in the shop at mcallen) I wouldn't worry about the number.

The correct way to use a dyno is to take a base line, then mod, then test again on the same machine to see what you gained. Dyno just to get a number to show off is pretty rice IMHO

Dude, that's EXACTLY why it dyno'd so low.. because it's an automatic.. don't you know anything about cars?

Dyno numbers vary so much from dyno to dyno and also changes a lot from conditions... It's useless to compare dyno numbers IMO.

Anyway, should've gotten 6MT

you guys are gonna laugh at the numbers I am about to post...but its just for a referance. I also own a Supercharged Focus...so I am a member of a Focus Forum too...we had a dyno day and an N/A Focus with all of the basic bolt-on's (intake, header, exhaust) and a ECU reflash with a manual transmission put out 135whp...another car that was an Auto with the SAME EXACT mods on the same dyno, on the same day put out 97whp. Now go ahead and laugh at the guy, because so did the rest of us...but that just goes to show you how much power is lost through drivetrain.

I have a auto with 270 uncorrected hp and 235 torque. A auto loses more power than a manual for sure, but its not going to be that huge of a difference. But a auto with a upgraded stall converter, and valve body will leave most manuals behind.

To get to the point though I would swap out the exhaust system and intake setup then dyno again with a fan.

Sincerely Glen

Whet to a dyno day and got a chance to see many cars on the same dyno on the same day.

Worst was a Auto G at 210 hp.
Best was a MT at 254 hp. (bolt ons and pulley)
And a bunch in between.
There was an stock Altima that put down 210 hp and was shut down at 6000 rpms because of the speed governor.

All ppl can do is make assumptions and guess the reason for the low numbers.

Answer to your question so listen up...
1. your auto so your numbers aren't going to be great
2. dyno in the wrong gear.
3. u have only a few mods
4. Heat kills hp and extra mods will always lean your a/f so i'm sure it's not as perfect as u mentioned.
5. any custom exhaust bigger than stock diameter will produce better flow up top therefore give u more hp compare to stock (low end might be less but more top end hp)
6. A dyno is ONLY a tool to measure an estimated hp/tq

Any ?????????????
Hmm, I sense some hate, is this guy mad his Z/G didn't make 215? Don't worry about those numbers, my first dyno after boost was 373... =(, I wanted to cry after seeing so many boosted Z's hit the 400...

My buddies 03 G35 auto made 215whp/210wtq with a crappy Skunk plenum. He weighs about 300lbs has run 14.5s@98mph. My stock 03 5AT went 14.3s@98mph. I'm certain my 03 auto is only putting down 215whp or so because that is the norm for most G35 autos.

Same ol' rule... the numbers don’t mean anything compared to other numbers you read about... different dyno, different day, etc... The only way you will know if you are uncommonly low on hp or tq is to go to a dyno day and compare your numbers to others dynoing that day.

BTW - to the post that listed reasons for low hp and included AT as one of them... that isn’t always true. I am AT and every dyno day (4 or 5 all together) I always fair well with any car with similar mods no matter MT or AT (usually better than most, and never more than one or two with higher hp, and that's never more than a few ponies). That is not to say that generally AT is as fast as MT, but be careful with thinking all MT will throw down more than all ATs.

Yep. 5ATs, G35 or 350Z, dyno about 10whp less than the 6MT. It's not hardly enough of a difference to make a huge difference in the 1/4 mile. We're talking about .1 seconds in the 1/4 mile.

hmm.....seems strange that the a/f ratio read fine after headers. In most cases, headers cause hp loss without a tune and on top of that, u have the plenum spacers and exhaust. you should be leaning out a bit. although auto trannies have greater drivetrain loss, something doesn't sound right. take it to another dynojet and redyno with a fan and get ur numbers sae corrected.
