That is one of those arguements that will be debated forever. I use the dyno as a means to see gains or losses. The key thing is to 1) Get a baseline 2) Use the same dyno 3) Do the same gear pulls.
I've seen guys get upset when they make XXXwhp on one dyno and than XXX on another showing losses. Even the SAE correction factory varies from shop to shop/ dyno to dyno. My opion is the dyno is a guess but a useful tool for tuning and see what help or didn't. If you want the most accurate hp reading I would research an engine dyno. Just my two cents.

5th Gear dyno is 1:1.. Doesnt get any more accurate than that...

If you dynoed in 5th you would of been anywhere from 260-270ish..

was the baseline at 102 deg...

what kind of trap speeds do you pull at the track? Doesn't really matter what the dyno says if you are still pulling good times.

Why does everyone worry about trap speeds and 1/4 mile racing? I personaly feel that the F&F generation is taking over racing. While drag racing is fun I perfer to be at an Auto-X or Track event. Drag racing doesn't take driver skill. I cold teach anyone to hold a RPM and slip/drop a clutch. Auto-X & Tack events is where driver skills come out. I've seen higher hp cars get their butts whooped cause the driver. Sorry for the rant and going off-subject.

Also while 5th gear might have a 1.1 ratio that doesn't mean the dyno reads correctly. As stated before a dyno for me is a means to see gains or losses. Even same brand dynos will read different numbers and can altered for better results.

I don't race it so I don't know what times it gets. Baseline was at 101deg about 1 hour earlier. 3rd gear.

traps speeds are a good indication and very good to use for comparison to see how strong the car is running. we arent really worried about drivers skill right now with this thread. this guy is trying to find out why is car is dynoing poorly.

wrong , if your up in the thin air you are not gonna make near the same power as you would near sea level.

Yep. Stock other than K&N drop-in standard airbox filter, 93 octane, ~300 ft ASL, 65-70 degrees F, 5th gear pulls only - 3 pulls. Pretty ideal conditions for a good baseline:

max hp = 248 rwhp
max torque = 236 ft-lbs

I may be a few hp +- on the numbers, I'll have to find the dyno sheet and post it, but point is they are close numbers and that's no mods. Just did it for baseline then got pulled away from working much on the car so haven't done much since.

I can't see using 3rd/4th vs. 5th is going to warm the engine less, not if on a dynojet with the rear wheels off. I have always heard 1:1 on the dynojet is the way to minimize parasitic loss in the drivetrain. Speaking of which the published hp is BS for that year (2004) IMHO, that's only about 12-13% loss from crank hp to rwhp, which would be pretty low.

What really impressed me was torque was 190-200 ft-lbs almost right away, at 2000-3000 rpm - a really long, flat curve. That's a lot of usuable torque.

OOPs! Lets try that again, WAY off, must be losing too many brain cells
max hp = 235
max torque = 224
ignore the crank adjusted that was just calc'd using 25% loss, pure speculation.
I had more copies, this may have been the first pull with the dip in torque right off idle...no complaints, now just have to hunting for some more real hp

your number is EXTREMELY LOW.

Not extremely - more like 246 rwhp is relatively pretty high. Also, was that corrected, not corrected, on a dynojet with the rear wheels off (tends to give lower but more realistic numbers) vs. a roller dyno...doesn't sound as good if all you want is to be the highest.

SCC's Project Z when they did the baseline ran 239 on 91 octane, that's closer to most of the stock numbers I see.
