Default 30k tune up for bro's G35... $388?!

My bro's G35 is due for a 30k tune up. Performance Nissan in Duarter quoted him $388.

List includes:

Change oil
air cleaner filter
Evap vapor lines
Fuel lines
Fuel Filter
Coolant
Drive Belts
spark plugs
intake & exhaust valve clearance

brake lines and cables
brake pads and discs (changed at 20k)
diff gear oil
exhaust system
steering gear, linkage, axle and suspension parts
tire rotation (no need, he has my stock 18s)
in cabin microfilter

Just looking at this list, it shouldn't cost more than $100. Should he take it to a non-dealer? How much would this cost at a non-stealership?

Thanks.

that's not a bad deal a $388 if it includes the drive belts (belts are $45 in parts alone)
and brake pads and discs (pads all around is at least $100 in just parts alone not include the discs)

in cabin microfilter costs about $35 in parts
coolant and drainage is worth at least $40
engine air filter costs about $20 in parts

if they're replacing all these lines then it's a steal.

he should also consider a fuel filter service as well.

Yeah 388 is MUCH lower than lots of people here have posted. I would hop on it and see exactly what is being replaced or it they are more just "checking" these things to make sure they work.

Hmmm, not sure if they're going to replace the belts. The pads and discs are pretty much new. Let me call them and ask.

Ok, just called. They're just inspecting:

Fuel Filter
Coolant
Drive Belts
spark plugs
intake & exhaust valve clearance

brake lines and cables
brake pads and discs (changed at 20k)
diff gear oil
exhaust system
steering gear, linkage, axle and suspension parts
tire rotation (no need, he has my stock 18s)
in cabin microfilter

No belts, no discs or pads. Doesn't include any parts or labor that (after inspection) need to be replaced. Take it to a reputable shop instead?

so, um, what are they replacing again? if they're just inspecting all that, take it to a nissan place. they're still reputable, but will be a lot cheaper although they may not have fruit, nutrigrain bars and bottled water while you wait.

This sounds like to me like your paying $ 388 plus tax for a freakin' oil change.

Do they even have the in-cabin filter? I got a thing in the mail, telling me to bring my Z in to have it changed and everyone says Zs don't have them.

damn, for 388 i would expect them to replace the air filter, not clean it. do your bro a favor and tell him to do most of that stuff himself. he'll spend about 100 in parts and you 2 could make an evening of it if you have the tools. if not, take it to a nissan dealer to just inspect the stuff. whatever you do, don't go to firestone.

Change oil + filter ($25)
Diff fluid ($50)
Tranny fluid ($50)
In cabin microfilter ($35)
clean air filter ($20)
lube driveshaft ($???)
If this is all they're replacing then it's worth about $180 plus whatever it costs to lube a driveshaft (I've never done this before so I don't know).

You should probably bring your own parts and use top notch synthetic fluids for your tranny/diff/engine and just pay them the labor. the air filter and in cabin air filter you can do yourself which the cost is about $20 and $15 respectively and it can be done with a simple phillips head and flat head screw drivers.

I did all that and even had my radiator flushed and a nismo low temp thermostat put in at my local nissan dealer and after everything was said and done with my own costs of fluids (royal purple tranny and diff fluids and mobil 1 full synthetic engine oil) I spent a whopping $200

thats not bad at all really. the dealership i worked at charged 375$ to turn the front rotors and new brake pads with labor. and obviously if you do it yourself its a ton cheaper without them charging labor.

Local dealers here charge more like $600-800 for that. $388 is a STEAL.
