Default 04 g35c 6MT... NO REVLIMITER?

Today, I was doing some spirited driving, and at 2000 miles and still never really driven hard, i decided to stretch her legs. I was shocked to see that I could rev it up to 6900 without the fuel cutting off. I was well into the redline before I shifted into 3rd gear, only because of fear of damaging the engine. This would actually prove to be somewhat intriguing with the addition of the crawford plenum, as the engine won't lose steam as it does in stock form. Are ALL g35 6mt's like this, or do i have a defect? I know my 350z cut off right at 6600, but the g35 seems to rev well past that.

My '03 cuts in at about 6700 RPM, haven't hit it lately, but as I remember, that's where it was. 6900 RPM would be much better.

that's interesting - the Z rev limiter on my '03 comes in more like 6400-6500, almost below spec.

my 6mt 03 sedan cuts fuel at 6900 rpm. I have found that in stock trim you get much better ET's if you shift well before this however (all the way to fuel cut in 1st then around 6200 or so for 2-3 and 3-4 shift.

No doubt. The following probably belongs on Racing & not this thread...

That's where I consistently found the most raw power on the track, around 6200 rpm. At Louden, NH (NHIS) you basically sit in 3rd gear between 5000-6200 for most of the road course, working the power band and only downshifting when you need more torque or upshifting for straight line speed...see this link for "why" - part of the course cannot be seen in pic 39, but enough to get the idea:
http://homepage.mac.com/stracy01/Auto/PhotoAlbum16.html

also see:
http://www.zccne.addr.com/Convention_2003/track.htm

From turn 4 through 9-10 I never used anything other than 3rd, basically powerslides to setup more than elegant turn-in. That sweet spot you mention is very good for 4-wheel power drifting, feathering the throttle.

1st-2nd is probably the hardest shift to hit right on my Z w/o VDC or similar, don't know yet on the G. Pleased to find the gates are tight and smooth. Less pleased that the clutch feels lighter and definitely comes in higher, talk to Infiniti about that first service.

I found the rev limited on my G Coupe by accident yesterday, botched 2-3 shift, little light flashed but I was a little preocupied so I didn't note the RPM, just focused on "get you butt in 3rd now"!

Stock tachs aren't all that accurate, especially in the upper range. Borrow an OBDII scan tool, and hook it to the diagnostic port. You should be able to get an accurate live reading that way.

Yes, I agree the stock tachs are not a calibrated instrument and are for "reference only".

To be off a few degrees on the high side seems pretty normal.

hey bellox - did you ever run your car on a dyno? I'm interested as to what kind of HP you're putting out.

Default Dyno ? Yes.

I pulled a 244/237. However I have heard rumors the dyno was reading 10-15hp too low at the time.

It may be more accurate, but my car weighed 3685lbs immediately after the 1/4 mi run listed in my sig after placing my car on the scale next to time slip shack at the strip.

Using typical performance equations:
Horsepower From Elapsed Time and Weight
» HP = (Weight / ((ET / 5.825)3)) = 270 HP
Horsepower From MPH and Weight
» HP = (((MPH / 234)3) * Weight) = 288 HP

Is that crank HP?

nice numbers. you should throw on some test pipes or RT cats and it will open her up nicely. i think you are the first g35c that I know of that broke 13's NA.

Don't think so, as it only accounts for point A to point B with a mass of X at standard Earth gravity - no accomodation for drivetrain loss, etc.

Your math looks more like very a straightforward calc derived from velocity, time, distance, and mass (weight in this case with g).

Just MHO, but the units add up...

sorry - simple answer is that is applied or effective power w/re to crank hp or anything else...the only problem there is I am not sure moving a mass over a horizontal distance in time t is very informative when expressed in a unit (hp) that is originally derived from a vertical lift measure...but assuming all things like friction are constant or at least cancel, the fact that the numbers are so darn close is a good indication.

those are very empresive numbers, if they are correct
my Z only pulled 232/225, and the Z is supposed to have 7 more HP
