anyone here have a Borla Exhaust?
I have one and all my freinds say that the Borla ehaust kills the sweet sound of the g35coupe... Now i actualy had it on my 350z and had a perf shop add some pipes and make it fit to my g35coupe.. I love the way the tips look all big and chromed.. but it did sound louder in my z.. can it be that because it was altered to cutome fit my g35coupe it can sound diff... i mean its still deep and loud but i actually preffer the stock sound myself... also i had a pop charger with my z maybe those 2 together made it sound better .. i am just waiting for my heat shield for the g35 coupe to come in and i am adding my pop charger... anyone else feel this way about the borla exhaust on the g35c?
I put the G35 version of the Borla cat back exhaust and the Borla headers on my car, and there was relatively little change in the sound in my estimation. Then I changed the cats to the Random Technology high flow cats, and all heck broke loose. Louder, deeper and some significant additional hp on the dyno. I do not know if it is the reaction of the ecu, or if the stock cats are a "chokepoint", but the header growl and the mellow exhaust sound all came out when the cats were changed.
eagle...i have test pipes on now..and it sounds like **** bro...sounds like a honda above 3k..but at idle has a nice tone. anyway...ive heard peoples reactions towards the borla, whats yours? is it deep all the time,or does it get ricey at WOT

Hey,
I'm the guy that made that video. Next weekend I'll make another one showcasing my new mods. Since making the vid, I've put on a Z-tube, JWT pop-charger, and RT cats(just put the cats on yesterday). I want to give the cats some time to break in so that they'll have their true sound.
All I can say now is the combo I have is awesome. Z-tube and JWT popcharger made the exhaust deeper and louder. But the cats have really opened her up. Until Next week.

The Borla does not sound ricey at WOT. I took it to Laguna Seca and ran it WOT around the track, almost 30 laps, and it sounds deep and nice all the time. I am running FI so there is a lot of flow coming out of that engine through the exhausts, and it sounds just sweet as can be, especially on acceleration with the added growl from the headers. And it did not violate the 92 decibel limit at the track even under full load, so it is civil.
The truth is, with just headers and catback, the Borla set up at idle is almost indistinguishable from stock. Both in terms of looks and sound. Under throttle, it is deeper, not quite V-8 deep, but definitely not V-6 moderate either. However, when you get those high flow cats into the equation, it is a mod that generates a lot of "I gotta get me some of those" type reactions. For the driver it is more "Yes, I LIKE IT!" reaction. Try it in a tunnel or under a freeway overpass, or a narrow street between two buildings, and it is really neat, any kind of situation where the sound is refracted back.

6MTHavok,
This is my first post on this website, but I've lately been a regular on 2 other popular G35 message boards (FA and G35driver). I've been doing a search for Nismo, Stillen, Fujitisubo, etc... with RT Cats installed. I'd pretty much written off Borla due to the piece meal way the exhaust was installed, BUT I am very interested to hear how things sound INSIDE of the car w/ the Z-Tube, PopCharger, Borla, RT Cat combination.
Thank you for taking the time to update this post!

Hey neffster,
Inside the cabin it is much louder than stock. When you go WOT it takes over any conversation that may be happening. I'm a young guy though, so it doesn' t bother me. The sound you get when you hit the gas is just awesome though.
I know i said I'd take a video this weekend but I'm going to put it off just one more week. I'm dynoing next saturday (March 6th). I'll take a video of inside the cabin and also of the car on the dyno machine so you can hear the exhaust under load without wind noise. It should give a good representation. Until then!

I see you're from Florida. Where? I live in Central Florida and would be willing to take a drive to see/hear your set-up. Would you be up for a "mini-meet"? TIA

I'm down in Boca Raton (on the East coast, an +hour north of Miami). Pretty hefty drive from Central Florida.
What you might want to do is if you have this coming Saturday free, come down to Palm Beach. It'd still be quite a drive, but it would be a good experience for you. South Florida Z car Club is having a Dyno day at a shop, and about 20 cars are going. I'm sure there will be an assorment of different exhausts that you'll be able to hear for yourself. I'll be there. You could also get your car dyno'd to get a baseline so you could see how effective future mods are.

Too bad we live so far away.

Probably not going to happen. I already have blown off a Central FL meet w/ a drive up to Jacksonville. I have family commitments, plus I'll be doing some work around the house hanging new exterior lighting.
From 2-4K rpm (not under a full load, but normal driving/acceleration) do the Cats/Exhaust combo prohibit normal conversation w/ the windows and sunroof closed? Do you ever get a headache from the constant "drone" (if that's the right word?)
Thanks again for the help.
