I put my rsr exhaust on a few months ago and I love it. the sound is awsome and its not too loud to me, I just get rattles in the rear of my cabin like crazy! with the windows rolled down you don't notice it, but since its getting colder down hear in GA my windows are going up! once i'm up to 60mph everythings cool but, everytime i accelerate to speed the rattles are there sounding like my cars 15 years old. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem too, and if you found where the noise is coming from?

Also how loud exactly is this exhaust? Is it cat back?

Yea.. my Invidia is Just as loud. I Dyno-matted my trunk out. It stopped the rear strut tower peices from rattling.

Dynomat under the spare, rear wall all the way up to the seats almost. It will take you a whole day to do it ... lots of stufff to dis-asemble /reasemble.. but IMHO worth it

 

Man, I couldn't take driving with my RSR with no silencers after a while. It was too loud and stuff vibrates. It is especially loud when you start it up in very cold weather cause it sits at like 2000 rpms for a couple minutes till its warm. It does sound good when you are on the gas though.

It is not a cat back, goes from the stock y pipe back

Does anybody have a vid or somethin to show the sounds of the exhaust at idle and while its moving?

 

I got one of the larger boxes... sorry.. it was almost 2 years ago when I did it. It was VERY easy to do. Dynomat just sticks on. The pain was carefully pulling the trunk trim pieces out. I did not have a manual or anything either so I was taking my time. It helped a lil' bit.. but you can of course still get a few vibrations.

 

It could just be the cold weather man, my car is making all kinds of rattles now since its cold, the interior peices of alot more space between them.

 

Mine is too, downfall to dyno mat is it is very heavy. I havent figured out how to keep the trunk lid plastics from ratteling. They drive me nuts with my sub. So i can relate to you RS-R exhaust peeps. Anyone have good idea for that, I'm all ears

Glad to see that I'm not the only one with a rattling RSR exhaust It has nothing to do with the temps since mine did it in the early fall, but I plan on dynamatting everything for my custom audio install . . .

 

i put dyno-mat all over the trunk and it seemed to get rid of most of the rattles. There still is a tiny rattle under acceleration but its not near as bad as it was. the main part that was making the most fuss was the peice of plastic thats covering the trunk latch. what i did was just unsnap the cover and slid rubber inbetween the cover and the body. it seems that my rear stb is rattling but i cant figure out how to put some insulation in there.

wow, that's encouraging, i just ordered a RS*R a few hours ago

 

The best commercially available sound damping material per dollar is called brown bread. You can get it at www.b-quiet.com The 70 sq ft roll did my 2003 honda accord coupe, 2 layers on doors, 1 layer floorboards and rear seat area, rear quarter panels, rear deck and 2 layers under the hood. It's a helluve lot for the price. Dynomat would cost nearly twice as much for the same amount of stuff and the brown bread is better quality.

 

I used brown bread on my previous vehicle and it worked really well. I don't know why they only sell the "ultimate" now (perhaps they're out of stock or obsoleted the brown bread), but its still good stuff. You'll also here quite a bit about "fatmat."

Back to the RSR:

I just recently was hit in a parking lot (ya, they drove off) and it pushed the passenger rear area a bit. When I had the car on the lift, I noticed that there's a black, plastic, box shaped item that resides right on the corner of the bumper. It was loose and seemed that it could be causing the unsettling sound.
