Question To: TopSpeed Headers GroupBuyers

Think we should also try a gb for this jet-hot header coating?
http://www.jet-hot.com/pages/headercoatings.html
i like the idea of the black matte; harder for popo to see

I don't think I'm gonna install without it. Been in touch with them via email and I'm liking the Jet Hot 2000 in black.

I'd be curious to see how much a GB would bring the price down. So...yeah...I'm interested.

me, too; won't install without it.
what price did they quote you?
what's the dif in cost btwn the sterling and the 2000? Seems like sterling option would be adequate for na.
who wants to run this gb?

the coated headers this company sells for the vette, bmw, maro and mustang all come with the "sterling" option.
the sterling option (1300' F) comes in black, blue, grey, and silver.
2000 option (2450'F) comes in black, blue, and grey.

Off topic, our stock headers come with two bungs on each header, but the topspeed ones only have one. why?

From the email I received...

"The price to coat a set of V6 headers,in&out with the sterling silver
finish,is $195+s&h back. Add $20 for the flat black, blue or grey finish.
We'll need them here for 3-5 days plus shipping time back.If the parts
are chrome or nickel plated, add $40 to the total and 2 days for
stripping.I will send you our full information package to get you all
the coating benefits in greater detail.

Jet Hot also carries a coating called Jet Hot 2000. This coating runs up
to a temperature of 2400 degrees. The Jet Hot 2000 only comes in a flat
black, blue or grey finish and has a gritty texture on the outside. The
Jet Hot 2000 runs $25 more than the sterling silver finish. This coating
takes 2 days longer than the sterling silver process. We suggest Jet Hot
2000 for set ups with nitro, turbos, etc."

At the end of the email, they offered 10% off of whatever I decided to get. I'm sure if you contacted them through their site, you'd get the same. For what I want, I'd be saving 12 bucks.

so, for the non-turbo option, black, it would be $195+20+40-10%=$229.50+s&h to do our stainless steel topspeed headers?
It would be cool if we could get another 10% off for a gb.

I would be in on a GB for this. I'm interested in the 2000 black finish. I'm sure with everybody buying headers on this site and the other site we could get a nice discount on a GB.

I'm estimating 195 + 25 (Jet Hot 2000) - 10% + shipping. We wouldn't pay to have 'em stripped since the TopSpeeds aren't plated with anything.

Hey dgz32,
are you going install the headers yourself or have someone else do it ?

alphaz - I'll probably just do it myself. Probably over the Christmas break. Sure would be nice to have a lift, though. What about you?

http://www.350zmotoring.com/forums/s...threadid=18033

so expensive though, i mean the headers were only 220! ah well.

Yeah, I can't justify paying that much for the coating, unless it makes a wolrd -and I do mean a HUGE- difference in performance.

Hey guys, this is the response i got from jethot, but maybe we should just get on the other gb to easily get to 10 buyers:

Right now we're doing them for $195/set, less 10% holiday discount. If
you could get 10+ sets together, we'd move it to a 20% discount. Thanks

is it just a hi-temp powder coating? If so I might just buy the stuff and do it my self.. and be able to do others. Total cost for a full kit is ~$500

There's a discussion about JetHot coatings going on in another thread recently. My 2 cents is that you're not likely to see any substantial power gains by doing a header coating. However, you're likely to get a major increase in the life span of the headers. Steel is not a terribly good material for headers, since it can crack (especially the welds) during the extreme temperature cycling that headers go through. (oem manifolds are usually cast iron, so they don't have the cracking problem.) You'll also dramatically cut down on the engine bay heat by coating the headers. That can extend the life of the rubber hoses and such in your bay. Never a bad idea.

I have a set of stainless DC headers I had coated with the black JetHot 2000 coating:

DC stainless:

DC stainless with JetHot 2000:

And keep in mind that JetHot coats the inside *and* outside. Coating the inside is important since it helps protect the steel from the heat. Coating only the outside would help reduce engine temps, but wouldn't protect the header steel.
