There are a few different styles of intakes, pop-charger or short ram styles like JWT, cold air like Nismo, then cold air/ram air like K&N or Gruppe M. Almost all intakes have been dynoed and proven to be reletively close to each other in HP figures. However, there is one variable that a dyno does not consider. The ram-air cold air style intakes like the K&N and Gruppe M have a ram air scoop that sits in the front bumper, that feeds air up to the filter in the engine bay via a hose or pipe. These intakes will have more air being forced up to the filter at higher speeds, and in denser climate conditions, but the car has to be moving in order to get this advantage. A dyno will not differentiate or take this into consideration. So Dyno proven, all these intakes make around the same ballpark figures in power, but Ideally, the ram air style intakes will work better at freeway speeds etc.. I didn't notice too much of a difference at speeds with the K&N, but with my gruppe M, I really notice the high speed gains.
I would recomend one of these two simply on their designs. But the gruppe m is WAY TOO expensive (even though I use it), and theK&N typhoon is nice, cheaper, but still kinda pricy for many. A JWT or nismo intake will be just fine. But if you are considering the nismo, you may want to consider the typhoon as well, for that added ram air effect. Again, it's not a big difference at all, just if every HP matters to you......well, youv'e gotta be the judge......
WE sell all of them, and have most of these on our site.

Only thing Tony did not mention, is that your stock airbox ALSO is a ram style.

We tested and found that is builds .06psi of boost at 65mph... Whereas this is NOT a huge amount, it is showing that it is doing more than any cold air intake, etc...

The engineers at Nissan were pretty smart with our intake. If you're looking to change the sound, then you might want to consider something else.

An intake on this car is really just a mod for the sake of a mod. The stock system is already well designed. I have the Nismo, but I'm fully aware that I am gaining, AT MOST 1-2hp. An aftermarket intake may prove *slightly* more beneficial when you add cams, headers, etc. but in all reality, the stock intake is tough to beat.

I had the AEM intake for a while and it did make a "noise" during acceleration. It was even louder when it was in the 50's outside...

Yeah, but here's the thing.......With no other mods, the injen intake won't do a thing. It MAY add about 4-5 hp to a set-up with upgraded cams, proper ECU adjustments, and proper exhaust system upgrades. It all depends on what are the limiting factors. With a stock, or near stock motor, the stock intake is more than adequate.

do any of the non-oem intakes lose power at any rpm? like dual exhausts losing some low end power to gain it top end?
