Default AEM Intake= Service Engine Light?

I put in a AEM Cold Air Intake a few weeks ago and ever since then the service engine light keeps going on. I've brought it back to the dealship 3 times already tomorrow will be the fouth. The first time they said it was the gas tank, then a valve malfunction who knows what they will tell me this time.Does anyone know why I have to bring my car to the dealership once a week to have the light shut off?????? Please advise I'm going nuts.

I would double check the connections.

Is the sensor plugged in?
Is the breather hose connected?

I checked the air flow sensor last time and its on fine. I was going to try and rest it myself using http://www.technosquareinc.com/350reset.htm not sure if thats going to be a quick fix or make a whole new problem for myself. Regardless I'm starting to have doubt about the quality of work at my dealership.

you would think the dealer would have the code to fix the problem after that many times...try another dealer that knows what they are doing.

Yeah it really sucks because I have been getting good service from these guys for about 2 years now. I'm just really fed up I'm thinking about trying the gas pedal method on techno square but I'm not sure if that will just be a band aid. It's funny how this all started a week after I had Nissan install my AEM CAI

Spend $100-$200 on a datalogger/code reader and get it figured out on your own. It is money well spent, and most out there do much more than just read and erase codes. They show you fuel trims, o2 sensor readings, intake temps, and much more.

I run PocketLogger which costs $125 for the software and cable and all you need is a palm pilot. I bought a palm m125 off ebay for $40 shipped. For $165, it is defenitely worth it. If you randomly throw a code, not biggy, pop it out and check if it something serious and go from there. Defenitely a must if you plan on running testpipes or doing any sort of modding.

Not a bad idea. My main concern would be if a code came up that required some work done I would still have to bring it to Nissan for service.

That's true, but I would say 75% of the codes are something minor that you could fix easily. Vacuum leak, o2 sensor readings, etc. Much easier for you to get them read at home rather than making arrangements/find time to run to the dealership for something minor.

Autozone reads codes for nothing and I live 5 minutes from one and I went out and bought my own reader/datalogger because I was sick of going there for little things. You know so much more about what's going on with the car when you have one. When I installed my greddy exhaust and relocated my evap box, I threw a code for a small evap leak, so I just redid the tubing. I have been throwing codes due to my testpipes, so I now have installed mil eliminators to stop this. I can use my dataloger to see exactly what those o2 sensors are reading. I would HATE having to drive 20 minutes to the dealership for somehting as minor as an o2 sensor or small evap leak code.

Trust me, the $165 will be payed back to you in time spent not going to the dealer.

I already have an appointment to take the car in the morning luckily I work about 5 minutes away from the dealership so its not that bad. If it goes on after this time I will def spend the 165.00 I swear they should have my own bay at Maroone Nissan my car is there once a month at least. I love my Z but it's getting real annoying. So many little things from tires to window nots working I guess thats what I get for buying a first year Z

Angry AEM cold air intake

Since I put on the AEM intake, I noticed my idle was choppy and went up and down drasticly at red lights. I then put on the true dual borla cat back exhaust and Jim Wolf alluminum flywheel. My idle got much worse after I did those two things so I took it to the dealership to find out if it was the O2 sensor or what and all was good. I then had it dyno'ed and to my horor found I was running lean and was 11 horses down from stock specks!!!!! Has anyone else had a similar problem and if so what was the culpret?

Your ECU is probably adversly adjusting the timing. Get your ECU flashed to take care of this and your lean condition.

After all that B/S They finally said that it was a gas cap issue. It only took them 4 times to figure it out. Makes me wonder if they were just resetting the light and not getting to the real problem. I love the AEM it gives the Z a few extra horses and produces a throaty growl when you step on the gas. I'm glad that installing it had nothing to do with the light.

Is that really what you have to do to reset the ECU? I had to replace my spark plugs and I got the Service Engine Light. My car seemed to be running fine so I figured I just needed to reset it. So I unplugged the battery and let it sit the whole night. In the morning I start the car and the CEL is gone and all is well.
