Default Crawford Plenum!!!!! Great Mod

Got the plenum in the mail today and couldnt wait to put this thing in. First just wanna say.............Damn!!!!!! Made a difference in acceleration at top end and alot smoother i might add. Loss of torque on the bottom but makes up for it when u gun it at higher rpm. Very satisfied with this mod overall. Car is alot more fun to drive now.

Get an aftermarket air filter to feed that hungry plenum... you will feel a return of low end torque! Right now your sucking a shake thru a coffee straw

hmmmm..........i thought u would lose some low end torque with another air filter. How about jus the K&n filter in the stock box? IMO the stock design is already good.

Any dyno results on this mod? What other strut bars work with the new cast plenum?

I want to order it, so I'm curious...

Thanks!

No......no dyno yet. but u do actually feel the car pull more higher up. gonna get all the parts put in first and then get it dynoed. as far as strut bars are concerned.....i got it from crawford and i dont know what other aftermarket ones fit. the one from crawford does the job. as far as force induction goes. im not sure if the strut bar from crawford will still fit with aps/greddy or any other kits for that matter. anybody have insight on this?

I installed the Crawford Cast Plenum in my G35c yesterday. Was raining pretty bad here in Seattle so I didn't get to drive it much, just took a short spin to check for coolant leaks or air leaks (of which I have none, and I applied the gasket maker myself). Was able to test it out today and my butt dyno says it pulls harder, particularly in the higher RPM range. I'm quite happy with the mod although given the price of the plenum, I don't know if I could justify a dyno run.

the k and n drop in filter replacement doesn't do anything for our cars. If anything maybe 1hp. not something really to speak of. an open filter design like the JWT would benefit you much more.

I have the AEM with K&N filter on it, would this help raise the flow of air to the Plenum?

All AEM filters are K&N filters, just with an AEM logo on it.
yes that will help with gettingair into your plenum

Incorrect. AEM has been making their filters in house in Hawthorne for years. I'm friends with one of the owners of AEM and I've been inside the factory dozens of times. They have all the machinery in house to make the filters from start to finish.

Up to a few short years ago, AEM intakes came with K and N filters. Yes, now they make their own, but it's essentially the same exact thing. there is no filtering difference between AEM and KN.
But I used to sell retail at a motorsports shop, and have used AEM intakes on my cars in the past, and they all came with KN filters. You can still find these at shops if they've been sitting around in storage for a while too.....

i'm very aware that the butt dyno is directly proportional to the cost of the mod installed, meaning the more expensive it is, the more power you will feel. so, i've compensated in the past years and have always been skeptical with the butt dyno.

i'm glad that you're enthusiastic about the install. i installed mine yesterday and got a chance to play outside. i honestly didn't really feel that much of a difference after the install. it was a bit louder in the cabin, and when revving, but that's about it. looks like we'll have to go to the dyno to get some definitive answers.

but, in doug's defense, he and his crew did a great job in construction. the plenum looked great (except for the missing paint under the TB), and they are very helpful ad willing in solving problems (even over the phone). customer service is top notch!

n1cK!

Well, I just installed the Crawford Headers and swapped out my RT Cats for the Crawford Cats...

Let me put it this way, my previous mods:
z-tube, K&N panel filter, Crawford Plenum V5, RT Cats, JIC Y-Pipe all combined did not give me the satisfaction of the Crawford Headers.

On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being most satisfied I'd rank my mods as follows...

z-tube - 2
JIC Y-Pipe - 1
K&N Panel Filter - 1
RT Cats - 4
Crawford Plenum - 5 (maybe a 6)
Crawford Headers - 10+

I do like the crawford headers, on paper... still having trouble justifying the cost for some bent steel but oh well. Anyway, had you done the headers first and the plenum last you might be saying "OMG this plenum (or Y-pipe) really did the trick" hehe, since the other mods (in your case) helped the headers do more. It looks like you have a pretty balanced combo of upgrades, you have handled bottlenecks on both the exhaust and intake, not just one end. gratz I would suggest a better intake/filter situation, like short ram or CAI or for quietness atleast maybe the stillen box. I think that is your "bottleneck" now.
