My Alpha Werx Headers came in today without Gaskets. I called Paul from Avalon Racing and he told me that i needed to get an OEM sets. Nissan priced the whole set for a tad under a hundred dollars. Nissan also does not stock these part so special orders will take three buisness days. Today during lunch, i found some high temp asbestos type gasket material and was wondering if i should go ahead and make my own gaskets or should i just order a set from Nissan? FYI, gasket material cost me $12.00 a sheet. Gasket seems easy enough to make. I work for a shop with alot of tools so i'm not worried about workmanship.

just use your originals; they are high quality.

 

Thanx guys, the original unit are in good shape so i'll be using those. The Header install is brutal though.

 

tell me about it; i got the crawfords, which require you to lift the freakin engine , but in the end, it was TOTALLY worth it!

 

even though you can re-use the gaskets nissan recommends replacing the gasket...and after doing the install why take the chance of having a leak...call concept z in Arizona...got my gaskets for $30.

 

Seriously not worth the trouble or the extra money. the OEM gaskets will hold up fine. They are layered metal and unless you bend or crease them, just reuse them.

 

I re-used the stock gaskets and took the car for a 200 mile trip around the island the next ady. They held up fine. Yesterday i retightened all the bolts on the headers and exhaust and know there is no leaks and or wierd sounds at all, just beatiful music. They work out jusr fine and saved me 100.00 dollars.

If anyone would like a copy of the install instructions, I can email or fax them to you. To address this issue in particular, you reuse the oem gaskets. This is not a gasket that you need new either. Just reuse the stock gaskets and you will not have a problem. This is not like the gasket that you would use for the head of your engine that you should replace when you open up your engine to do head work for example. It is just the gasket for the header and it works great. I believe every other company that manufacturers headers for the 350z would agree.

because these gaskets are metal they compressed when the original manifold/headers were installed by the factory, so you might have an imperfection when you do the install.you probably cant see it with the naked eye. the only gaskets that should be reused are the copper kind which summit racing sells. why bother taking a chance and just spend the $40 on another set of gaskets from nissan and save yourself the headache from tearing the headers off again to find a leak....just a suggestion

 

i agree with you goldndwgz...just buy new ones and not worry about it....thats what i did. if you can afford the headers you can afford the gaskets imo. you want to try and avoid any possible headaches especially with these headers since the install is such a pain and time consuming
